It's far far too late in the development cycle for Sony to make major changes to the PS3. They may be able to bring the cost down another $50 without the beancounters screaming too loud, but that's it. They can't redesign the controller, they can't get rid of Blu-Ray, and they definitely can't be seen as copying Nintendo too hard.
So what you're saying is, you'd prefer that Ragnaros emerge, kill all of the healers in the raid, then begin picking off the DPS one at a time as they die from a lack of heals? Because he keeps a log of what has happened in the past and he realizes that it's the healers keeping the others alive, so logically he would kill them first? Or, he sees the same 40 people as last week, and decides not to emerge at all, thus denying your guild the loot from another kill?
The World War II genre really hasn't seen much play (no pun intended) in video games recently. Nobody has really explored FPS games in this time period recently, so I give major Kudos to the publisher for going out on a limb and making a game set in World War II. This kind of uniqueness and individuality is what makes the Xbox 360 a truly innovative gaming platform instead of just a "Me Too" cash dump.
I knew the strange name was a PR stunt when it was on the front page of CNN.com the whole day of the announcement, followed shortly by postings on Fark and two posts here on Slashdot.
I don't think they're going to rename it again to get rid of the naysayers, but the timing of the announcement and the uniqueness of it was pretty clearly a PR ploy.
I've heard that argument before. But here's the key problem with the argument - the date of creation is completely arbitrary.
You say the Universe was created 6000 years ago mid-stream, with all of the fossils in the ground, all of the Carbon-14 decays just exactly where we would expect them to be, everything mid-stream and perfect.
I say the Universe was created when you began reading this post, with the entirety of Human history in-place including ready-made memories of things that you did earlier today.
Seriously, are there any among us who don't roll their eyes when things like this come up? It's stupid forum drama, perpetuated by morons who all think that their opinion is the only one that matters.
Wow, what horrible pseuo-science. There's nothing "Geometric" about those shapes at all. Every single one of those "example" tests (as well as their interactive "do you own geometry" test) were all based on pattern recognition. 5 of the things are roughly the same, and the 6th is quite different in a very visual sense.
If they did this same test with the numbers "1" and "2" oriented in different directions, or in different sizes (with five 1's and only one 2) I think these tribal people would be just as good at finding the pattern, but that does not mean they know basic arabic numbers.
We've always known that the Human Brain is incredibly good at pattern recognition. This article, and this study, are full of crap.
I'm sure I'll get swiftly moderated down by the ninja-editing skills of Michael and the other nazi admins, but who cares.
To CmdrTaco: Cry more noob.
Slashdot isn't your blog. We don't care that your name got moderated. And your excuse for "thinking about the online whatever" is just crap. You wanted to cry and moan that your name got changed, so you did, on one of the highly visited geek websites. You're crying because you "lost your name". Wah.
Researcher 1: OMFG! We just caught a Giant Squid on camera!
Researcher 2: Quick, let's get an article up and not give them any pictures!
Researcher 1: Perfect!
Yeah, how DARE Blizzard try to recuperate their 4 years of development costs by charging money for the game!
If the game were developed in spare time (like A Tale in the Desert) or was purely text lacking a lot of polish, then I could see an argument for giving the game away for free. Otherwise, suck it up.
The most interesting things happening to the MMORPG world will happen in November. Everquest 2 is set to launch on November 8th, while a large majority of the Beta testers have said that it is not ready for release. Of course, that didn't stop SOE from releasing Star Wars: Galaxies well before it was stable, so why should it stop them for Everquest 2?
Rumors are also going wild about World of Warcraft being launched on November 22nd (as told by a high-level staff member of Vivendi). That game is very good, and while it has a high degree of polish some are complaining that it's not quite up to the "Blizzard Standard". Personally I don't think so - I'm in the Beta and it's incredibly well done. The next patch (coming next week) will add in a ton of content, including the first Raid encounter.
I respect all the third party candidates for what they're doing, and I know that he went through a lot of trouble to get these answers to the Slashdot crowd, but this is not the year to be voting for a third party candidate. We need to get George W. Bush out of the Oval Office as soon as possible. And a vote for a third party is a vote that Kerry did not receive.
And don't lecture me about "voting your conscience". I voted for Nader in 2000, and would proudly do it again. Hell, I'd vote for Nader in 2004 if it were obvious that Kerry would win the election and get President Bush out of the office. But in a tight race like that, we can't afford that chance.
If a house is burning down, first you put out the fire. Voting third party this year is like redesigning the house while it's still on fire. Kerry will need every vote he can get.
In an interview with Mel Brooks a while ago (on the order of years) he stated that he would not name a Spaceballs sequel "Spaceballs II", but would instead name it:
Assumption: All video games based on movies are bad (ET, Spiderman, Lord of the Rings)
Assumption: All movies based on video games are bad (Mario Brothers, Final Fantasy Movie)
Assumption: All games by Square are (at the very least) good games, with many being fantastic.
Premise: Movie is made, based on an excellent video game (FF7)
Consequence: The movie will be bad.
Consequence: The game based on the movie will be worse.
Consequence: Square will see that the game will be bad, and will thus improve its video game to compensate.

That sounds like fun to you?

Prove that I'm wrong.

problem was that everything was instanced. After games like

got to me.

I gave up on Slashdot providing reliable information a long time ago. Now I come to skim the headlines and check out the trolls.

Just the fact that Star Wars: ROTS was only found after somebody (presumably) recorded it inside a theatre means that they've done something right.
The only problem I see is your use of the Slippery Slope Logical Fallacy
If the game were developed in spare time (like A Tale in the Desert) or was purely text lacking a lot of polish, then I could see an argument for giving the game away for free. Otherwise, suck it up.
He knows we're stupid.

The Republican Kool-Aid, that is.

1st iteration - Traitor defects, TfT cooperates, TfT loses and Traitor wins.
Nth iteration - both defect, minor losses for both
Thus Traitor beats TfT... What am I missing?
I'd much rather NOT think of a Slashdotter doing that. But I understand some people are into that sort of thing...
