For years I struggled with the greater-than/less-than signs because I didn't realize that the limitation of reading it from left-to-right was in effect. I often wondered what would happen if you went from right-to-left, would you have to change it from greater-than to less-than (or vise-versa)? I don't know how, but I was never ever able to convey that question to any teacher well enough for an answer. Nor did they ever explain it so I understood. I was so furious at myself years later when I realized (during a programming class) the simplicity of it.
Email, it works wonders at keeping accountability. If they ignore you, let it go. After all, there are about a hundred tasks facing every business owner which are more important than every IT policy to come down the pipe.
What happens when a 18 year-old is convicted for statutory rape of his 17 year-old girlfriend when they have consensual sex? He's now most likely a registered sex offender. Is he banned from Facebook?
Seriously though, who will buy this? This is honestly the best news for OTA fans that I can imagine. No one, tech enthusiast or not, is going to be OK with cable companies monitoring them. All this will do is push more and more individuals to Netflix, Hulu, HTPC. Cable companies are on the way out. Dumb-Pipe, here we come.
Good question. I was referring to the "continuity sensors" that would detect jailbreaking and such. When I first read this, I was thinking of the current state of jailbreaking, which is a software hack. So I assumed the these continuity sensors were software in nature and somehow monitored the install process. But then I remembered that the first attempts at jailbreaking were hardware in nature. That's when I realized that these continuity sensors were in fact hardware related. So yes, my initial statement about installing the software of my own choosing doesn't really apply to this.
They can include whatever sensors they want. And I can buy whatever I want. There's no way I'll buy a smartphone that doesn't allow me to install software of my choice. This walled-garden crap is making me look to the HTC Hero, or whatever new Android phone is on the horizon.
Wow, who's going to be lining up to buy this product now? Nothing scares away potential customers like the threat of a potential lawsuit,...just from generating some docs.
(What does their product do again?_
We had an outage today. Our servers are hosted with Genesis Hosting, which suffered an outage from their ISP; XO Communications in Chicago. Anyone know what happened?
Ok, so they are charged with possessing/manufacturing child porn. Will they be tried as children (suspended sentence)? Maybe there should be a slap on the wrist. None of the usual registration as a sexual predator stuff.
Let me guess, certain songs will stimulate sharks. Does it mean they like the music? Or that the rhythm reminds them of the excited heartbeat of a baby seal? Maybe its the magnets in the speaker systems. Or the electricity in the wires. What about differing tastes of music between individual sharks? We don't actually assume that music preference is species wide for sharks, do we? Get ready for some serious bias in interpreting whatever results these experiments find.
Remember, Bing Crosby is for slow-aquatic-red-death
Hardware/Software vendors = conflict of interests
Apple = iTunes that makes transfer of media very difficult
Sony = Movie downloads, BlueRay DRM
Stick with hardware vendors who only sell hardware. Avoid ones that also sell media if you don't want your media restricted.
How is this "Score 4, Informative"? It's nothing but suppositions based upon bias. Not a single fact at all. "You can't like a Dell" , "you can like an Apple because they are made to be liked"? I'll tell you what I like, the $1000 I'd save from buying Dell or HP over Apple. Or not spending 3 times market price to upgrade my memory or storage when building a new tower. Apple's are very nice computers. But this entry is written like it's Apple Marketing. Apple "Just works"? That line is just as tired and BS as the "real people use real computers" line of crap. Here's a tip, leave the tag lines to politicians and out of educated discussion.
Problems I see with Macs: MBAir not having a removable media or more then one USB. iPhone being hardware hobbled via bad Bluetooth stack. iTunes - everything, it's a music black hole for gosh sakes. Someone suggest an alternative that allows me to "own" my music. All Computers - Price. All Computers/iPhone - Architecture, is Jobs going to have a temper-tantrum tomorrow and kick Adobe or Google out of his walled garden? I don't know, and he seems capable of doing such a thing (physically and emotionally).
Points for Apple: BSD really makes things nice for many reasons. Security through Obscurity is working for now and really makes for a carefree experience. Having 1/50'th the driver base allows for really tight Software Quality Control. They look nice and a MBP is my favorite laptop.

I love how a "Raytheon Reset" probably fixed the issue.
Yeah, I was just thinking "Rising CO2 levels?".
+1
"Oceans of Diamonds"??? De Beers has that already. Have you ever heard of "Artificial Scarcity"?

My sweet, sweet inter-tubes. You are a cruel and fickle Mistress

Will we see "Frodo Lives!" in Farsi now?
Do we just let AT&T and ASCAP fight this one out? This is like Iran and North Korea going at it.

Roy Scheider (and myself) approves.

I loved the PDS mod for Homeworld 2. Really enhanced the flight mechanics of some of the ships.
