I'm not a shill for Rockmelt (I have no connection to them). There is one reason, and one reason only why I use it & intend to stick with it - the integrated feed reader. Is there some extension that duplicates that functionallity on stock Chrome? If so, I'm game to go back (don't really care about the Facebook tie-in stuff). But I looked around for a while and have not yet located it. Yes, there are feed readers, but none quite like this one - at least as far as I can locate.
Well, I have no idea about any newest implementations, but I know Mumble uses CELT (version 0.11.0 as of the current version). I would suspect that Opus is on the road map.
How do you feel about Amazon's MP3 sales? DRM free, decent samples, easy one click buying... what's hard about that? Or are you just railing against Apple, but are in fact a legitimate Amazon music user?
While I am a fan of Linux, and am sad that they are going backwards, I think I know what's going on with "printer issue". The simple desktop models likely work fine. I would guess they're having problems with the giant office printers (Maybe not as big as this one but something large enough to power a whole office). Of course, I haven't read the fine article, nor am I a German, so I could be way off. But I suspect that's where I would run into trouble.
Well, while we're providing testimonials, I'll say that I too gave Onlive a try, and am a happy owner of two games (Just Cause & Red Faction), and might dip into this subscription service. I found the resolution agreeable (haven't tried it on my TV, but I suspect it'd be fine there too), the graphics were not as crisp as I'd like, but quite serviceable, and the response times, while "there", were nothing that interfered with my gaming (that I noticed).
I would just like to nth CrashPlan as well. I know of a professional business that seems quite happy with them. I also know for a fact that *I'M* quite happy with them (I use them at home) - The monthly plan starts at JUST $5 (with discounts for larger payments of course) for unlimited data. If you must have a backup local copy, get a drobo or something for local storage. But CrashPlan is GREAT.
Have you actually played Rockband 3 in pro mode? Rockband singlehandedly coached me into learning the Keyboard. Like, an actual one. That is, I can now play music on my grandmothers reed organ. My buddy is now a heck of a drummer thanks to Rockband 2 & 3 (again, he now owns a real (albeit electric) drum set & plays in a real band). And if they ever put out a bass version of their new Mustang, I'll pick that up too! Just because there's an "Easy Mode" doesn't mean there isn't more. Heck, even Madden has that new Rookie mode doesn't it?
Now, granted, 3 isn't a projection trackpad, but it should work just about as well, I'd think. Heck, no reason solution 2 couldn't be used for 3 as well. We're not there yet, but we're DAMN CLOSE! Just a bit more refining & miniaturization 'till it's all in the same device! Future ho!
Also how come porn is legal then, people are having sex for money there as well, but the difference is both are getting paid by a third party, and there is a camera.
Dude, you just summed up something I've wondered for a while.
I love how Snopes makes it challenging to copy & paste. Anyway, another relevant quote in reference to Gores home:
"Short of tearing it down and staring anew, I don't know how it could have been rated any higher," said Kim Shinn of the U.S. Green Building Council, which gave the house its second-highest rating for sustainable design.
The asker mentions "backed up securely", but I have to wonder if that's onsite or off (I know from personal experience with a housefire). Your mention of Carbonite (even though it may not have been intentional) is a good one, though I tend to recommend CrashPlan by code42. I have used both, and personally feel much better about CrashPlan ( They've an added extra in that they support other backup destinations beyond the just their site). As always, do your research, and find one that suits you, but I find that I can't go wrong with the $100 a year CrashPlan family plan, unlimited backup of my households computers. Anyway, I'm sorry for your situation, and wish you the best of luck with what may come. Oh, and don't let a good offsite backup lull you into not keeping a decent onsite backup - redundancy is the name of the backup game. And forgive this post if you're already doing offsite backup.
Ok, I'm not a shill. I recently gained access to the service (Founders what'cha'ma'jigger). I don't see myself BUYING any of their large offerings. That said, I did demo a number of them, and I can totally see myself picking up some of their cheaper options (I'd be game for anything sub-$15), and the concept of an actual rental service for PC games sounds SWEET to me. The full 30 minute demos are great. I just hope they keep furiously adding to their library, as they don't currently have that much that holds my interests (the Dragon Age & Borderlands I've already played to death on my 360). But by and large, for me anyway, the service was quite usable. Not perfect, but WAY better then I expected, and it should only get better.
And like Grumbel said, this could be a REAL boon for Linux users. If they did that within the first year, I would TOTALLY switch over to them, and start paying once my year was up.
Oh, wow. I didn't realize it was only able to be lent once. That is pretty worthless. So if I want to send it to my aunt Jane, I won't be able to let my cousin Vinny read it after her?
I can live with that for the same content. Now if they'd allow for that content to be transferred easily..... yeah, dream on. I guess if someone want's to borrow a book on the eReader, you would have to lend them the entire reader. That sucks!
OK, I'll bite -

Not that this is documentation, but this sounds like someone who knows what's going on:
All communication with Mumble is completely encrypted (s2c). The control channel is encrypted with TLSv1 AES256-SHA while the voice channel is encrypted with OCB-AES128.

All I'm saying is, when I see a Roomba, I think "Sure, the room looks great, but man is this thing lousy at giving decent head."
If 3D depth perception can correct this design flaw, then I know where I'm putting my R&D money. Capiche?
Your ideas are intriguing and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
First, let me say that I fully agree with you, IndustrialComplex. I have good news for you, in fact.
1. A micro projector (spreadsheets, documents, and the like require a much larger display than a cell phone)
2. A projection keyboard. (8 finger + thumb typing would be necessary to even get close to the interface speed of a home PC)
3. A projection trackpad. (Tracks your finger motions over a flat surface as if it were a standard trackpad)
Future ho!

Or friends who will take a tenner and give you a BJ.

What, when did slashdot get a "+1 - Get a load of this guy" mod option?

Would that I had a mod point. Hell, I'd trade one of my smaller, crappier towns AND a tech for a mod point!
That was no 'bot, that was a sentient being!

Actually, I gotta say - that sounds like a browser that would find support here in our community. Hell, I'd use it! :)
perspiration drug plan
naw, you learn not to sweat the drug plan.

Doesn't the Nook allow you to loan books?
I'm sure that when it's out of beta it'll have a few more. Otherwise, yeah, it's depressing.
If you don't mind me adding to your post, I'll add that I've found that Iview works great under Wine as well.
AHHHHHHH!!!!!!
