What I would rather see them do is just use complete CG actors. I like to see the same "people" doing the same parts. How much would return of the king have sucked if Gandalf was played by someone else? Or Return of the Jedi if Harrison Ford didn't come back? I feel the same with video games. I'd love to see a WarCraft movie, but if Arthas was anything but the CG guy I always see in the games, then I would blow the whole thing off as just some high school play no matter how good the special FX are.

Do you hear that movie studios? Give me the same actors even if they aren't real actors!!!
  3. Re:What' the problem? on Online Shoppers Naive About Online Prices · · Score: 1
I just got back from a 3-week stay in Vietnam. Over there all prices are negotiable. Including that TP that you want after work. If you really need it now (the TP) then you are less likely to bargain and more likely to buy it at what they are selling. The business is happy because they got more money out of you, you are happy because you can be sanitary.

But if you really don't need it RIGHT NOW, and you want a better deal then you haggle them. They will still be happy because they got your business and you will still be happy because you saved some money. Only a stupid business person will sell anything at a loss (unless it will secure your future business).

Having grown up in a country where prices are clearly marked and doing business that way all the time, at first I thought I was hurting their feelings by trying to get a lower price or that I would drive them out of business. But after the long stay you realize that you're only hurting them if they are stupid enough to sell it at a loss. Which, over there any way, they are not that dumb. They've been doing it for a while.

My dad will always buy a new car from the fleet manager simply because they give him a price and he drives away with a car. He might be able to save some money by haggling with the salesmen out front but it's not worth it for him. That's the way some people are. They pay for the cost of haggling with their money, while others pay for it with time and effort. If you want to talk to your power company about each individual watt-hour, that's your choice. They will likely not care, which is their choice. Some sell absolute, some don't. Some buy absolute, some don't. But it isn't a bad way of doing business. It's just "A" way of doing business.

In America, at least, we only really haggle for cars and houses because they cost so much. We just don't like the idea of it so companies have found that bargaining is not the way to keep MOST of their customers happy. That's not a bad way of doing business, either. It's just "ANOTHER" way of doing business.

    Oops.

Lesson #1: Companies need employees. Employees need money. Companies are willing to give money for your time. But they will pay only so much for your time depending on experience, qualifications, workload, etc. When it comes to employment you can see yourself as the producer and the companies as consumers. If you don't like what they pay, don't sell. Find someone else who is willing to buy at a price you're willing to sell. If that can't be found then maybe your product isn't worth buying...and then whose fault is it. I've never worked for a company that stole anything from me. Whatever they took from me I gave them because they were willing to offer me the right price (wage, environment, hours, etc.)

Lesson #2: Arizona, parts of Indiana (and I think Hawaii) don't care about the rest of the country's precious DST crap. Live there and you never lose an hour of sleep, never have to change your clocks, etc.

(1-(2/3) = 1/3, 1/3 of 12 is 4). Twice as many fights is not good but when looking at a sample size as big as 12 it's hardly anything to get excited about. Also, like you say, if the group were predominately game players then we really have nothing to worry about. In fact if it was more than 400 game players (2/3 of population) then we would have to worry about the non game players (i.e., 1/3 of population causing more than 1/3 of fights). Knowing the amount of people who play games, I would say that probably 2/3 of the population were game players.

I agree. I'm probably the exception to the rule but here are my views. Let global warming happen. What are we going to do to stop it? Nothing, because we can't. We should be good citizens of the Earth and reduce pollution. As examples, I ride my bike often, I drive a very fuel efficient Honda, I prefer a reusable towel over disposable paper towels on most things, etc. I am also a creationist in the sense that I believe God created the Earth. My views beyond that may differ from others however. I believe that the elements are eternal and God more or less organized the Earth (which is the more correct translation from the Hebrew). I also say that when in Genesis it says he created the Earth in 7 days we don't know how long a day is. It wasn't until the 3rd or 4th day that light and dark were seperated into our now 24 hour periods so maybe a day in that sense was millions of years. I've also heard (I can't remember where) that one volcano blast puts more pollution into the air than all mankind has combined. I could go on but I'll make it shorter and end with this: Do I believe that global warming could happen? Yes, history has shown that. Do I believe that humans are causing it? No, I don't think we could have that kind of power when we can barely have an effect on other natural disasters. Do I believe we should not pollute? Yes, it makes the world unhealthy and unsightly. Say what you will now.

I play games as that is what computers are for. I use Windows XP, Fedora Core 3, Novell Desktop Linux, OS X. Windows blocked UT2004 for a little while but I told it to stop and it did. Linux won't run it with a decent enough frame rate, and that was with a version made for linux. Don't get me started on games needing windows emulation. Mac doesn't get the really nice video cards until they're no longer really nice, but you still paid twice as much for the mac. Some of you might say I should go to consoles then. If you've played a real time strategy like WarCraft III, you wouldn't bother saying something so stupid. If you've noticed the aiming precision in the keyboard/mouse combo compared to some lousy, clunky game pad, you wouldn't bother saying that. If you've noticed that while consoles produce good graphics compared to PCs when they first come out but by the middle of their life span that comparison sucks, you wouldn't bother saying that. Perhaps Linux needs something like DirectX, 'cause OpenGL ain't cutting it. Maybe Mac needs ATI and Nvidia to make a super nice new graphics card available to them the same day as for Windows. Maybe Windows needs to rewrite some of their security code rather than just asking me if I'm sure I want to run a program, and then if I'm really sure, and then if I'm really, really sure. All of them have good things, but they all have enough things wrong with them that they all suck. And I mean they ALL SUCK!!! I'm in computer science, I work two jobs, one computer support, one software testing, and when I get home I can't get off of the dumb things that are computers. I run all sorts of stuff on all the major OSs and have found that hands down no doubt about it every OS sucks.
