to me, it is clear why this is on slashdot: it is all about programming, but written in the voice of an idiot who is a huge fan of Monty Python...i suppose maybe the poster thought that slashdot readers were also fans...
so, pretty much nothing is different or new? same thing went with the original xbox, and i'm pretty sure the same thing goes for any piece of hardware. i'm sure this was also already in place before recent events. so microsoft is reminding everyone? ok.
i agree about advent children. my problem with the original final fantasy movie was that while the cgi was great as far as looking realistic, the movement and emotion was just not believable enough. any screen shot from the movie looks fantastic, almost real, but the animation was not quite there. i am not saying i could do any better, because i couldnt, i just mean that as a major motion picture, it didn't quite do it for me. as some cut scenes in a game, sure, that's fine.
one of the best examples I can think of where a game turned movie like this was the Final Fantasy movie [not advent children]. personally i think the movie would have been a lot better if they did it live action with a decent budget. the lifelessness of the cgi killed it for me. it was pretty, but lifeless.
HDTV will become the standard and wont cost as much in the (hopefully) near future. they're just now still overcharging for it. panic is for the impatient.
the answer: DISabling any kind of personal speech in the game. you cannot keep it out unless you shut everyone's mouthes. i would have no problem with playing a game where all i can do or say is already pre-set in the game. limit everyone to the little emotes like/dance and/cry,/yes and/no, then you take away their ability to say OMG THAT'S GAY!!! and presto, it's only offensive if blizzard put it in the game. which reminds me, why do they enable the toons to strip themselves down to their skivvies and dance for money? that is so annoying, and unavoidable since it's in the game.
/my two cents

I was pretty active in the IPL community, and as far as I know they've got it working on every ipod so far, except for the shuffle. When I say they, i mean the forum goers, meaning only the 1st 2nd and 3rd gen ipods are 'supported' by the IPL Core Team. The forums are overflowing with helpful tutorials to do it on any ipod, yes including the nano and "video" (5G)
In fact, here's my personal instructional video (for installing on nano) that I've had on Google video for some time. enjoy.
The typical geek trains their brain to be heavily focused while multitasking day after day. Is it surprising that this same brain does not do well when forced to isolate down to one task?
i doubt that the reason that i can't run a couple miles is that i'm not doing enough tasks. i doubt that i'd be able to run for miles if i was only replying to email while searching databases while answering the phone, etc.
i agree. i must confess, though, that i did recently purchase a few albums that fell under the RIAA umbrella. my only excuse is ignorance; i was not aware of what i was doing. it didn't even cross my mind that DCFC's new album is on an RIAA label.
one can view all of the RIAA labels at their site.
I took a look at TFA. Is it me or they don't discuss this new important feature: Ask.com Maps & Directions [ask.com].
i tried out the maps feature and what i found was that ask maps had a nicer picture and could zoom farther, but seemed to have older satelite images. (this is all dealing with the satelite, or 'arial', view)
I agree with all of your points. I should have explained that I know nothing of the ease or difficulty of implimenting any specific DRM into a piece of software or portable player. Of course it's only logical that iTunes sells DRM protected music, and most musicians want to have their music protected. I'm not trying to make the argument about ipod playing non-DRM mp3s, I was only discussing the likelihood or ability of iTunes cooperating/collaborating with the other music stores and/or portable players and the fact that France is being dumb...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not iTunes or iPod that are refusing to 'use' music from other music services, it's the other music services themselves that protect their music files and thus make them incompatible. One can import any regular old music file into iTunes and onto an iPod, i.e. from allofmp3 or ripped straight from CD. Perhaps iTunes could collaborate with the other music services to jointly enable their players to play the other encrypted files, but this certainly would have to be a joint effort.
wtf? i just looked at the picture of the plane...my first thought was 'omg, couldnt someone do a better job of photochopping that?' of course, this was also influenced by the fact that i WORK at dell, and i SAW the plane, and it said "SUNS GOT AN X64 SERVER...THANKS AMD!!!" so it annoys me that this fake picture was put in the/. article.

i dont know...as for myself, i always buy the genuine microsoft accessories for my xbox as i dont put too much value into the third party devices. maybe this will force some kind of quality regulations on those previously cheapo controllers and other devices? and perhaps that will drive higher sales in them? we'll see.

i wasnt even born until the 3rd one came out...my reasoning is that the originals _were_, in fact, better.
