And exactly what would be the incentive for them to release newly remastered recordings if they can't recoup the costs (let alone make any profit).
The kids who haven't bought it yet... Seriously, most people who own the original aren't likely going to buy the new ones anyways. Especially those who perfer Vinyl over digital.
Eventually mankind (or at least American civilization) will evolve to a state where they are immortal brains in a titanium enclosure in concrete underground bunkers and control all their bodies remotely. This will prevent any accidents from happening to anyone in our civilization...
Of course this will put a crimp on space exploration and going on dates, but that is what the Playsation 8 and Xbox720 neural interaface will be for.
Susie is going to knock Jimmy's clock off and big N will have to go to the courthouse.
I take it you've never played NES controller numchucks with your friends when you were growing up either? Well damn. I could have been rich since 1988.
Damn, I wish I had friends who had a DS, and the same games as me.
Actually the only downside to Advanced Wars is the download play doesn't do the full game with other people who have a DS but don't have the game. I was able to play the Combat mini-game with them, but apparently they need the full game to play the regular mode.
I could be mistaken about this since the instructions are very vague with the download play. I could always force them to buy the game. Puyo Pop fever and bomber man are better for the download play games.
I'm still waiting for the day I can hook the DS to a wireless router and hit up anyone on the internet.
DS == dual-screen gimmick with few or no games that usefully take advantage of the second screen
All you need to play is Advanced Wars DS and you will change your mind. It's all I need for entertainment... I've stopped playing computer games. I can still hear the main theme battle song while I type this at work. I want to go home and play it right now.
Yes, Windows has a whole heap of shortcomings and everybody loves to hate it. For the corporate world's desktops, its the only game in town.
You'd be suprise what major companies are only Mac only shops. I probaly shouldn't name names (because of my current job as an outsource person) but next time you look at a magazine rack at a store, you can bet more than two of those are mac only shops.
Not to mention a major clothing store has mostly Macs...
But yes the majority of the standard corps are Windows only. IMO the main reason Mac isn't used yet is because there is no really good Exchange replacement except for Lotus Notes.
There is Groupwise and Outlook for the Mac but they are crippled compared to their windows counter parts. Entourage can't even do delegation and "out of office" plug-ins so its not going to work as a replacement.
They are modding down anyone who uses "In other news" incorrectly. Check out the few posts below this one modded offtopic that start out with "in other news". It should be "redundant". Hopefully the meta-modders will catch it.
Punish the user for bad behavior, and they'll eventually stop.
That's hard to do if the user is your supervisor, upper managment, or your customer. It's not like you can tell the Excec-VP of marketing "No! Don't do that!" and smack their hand when they are set on doing it and demand they be allowed to do what they want to do. The better solution is to give a good argument against it and then try to avoid getting blamed when their continued actions.
Sucks to work for a company like that, but sometimes you have to roll with what you have.
Of course this may not happen until 2030-3000AD, but the problems we have today will not be around by 2100. The point of what I am saying any problem can be resolved by using technology. The downside is the technology that we need to solve that problem may not exist yet. There lies the major problem with the thinking of society about technology and science as secondary issues to life and not as a high matter of importance.
If only there was a Technocratic political party bent on devoting all public funds to sicence and technology.... Although mainstream society would most likely disagree.
I love space exploration. I grew up wanting to be an astronaut. But I just don't see the justification for this at this time.
As the quote goes:
"The dinosaurs died because they did not have a space program."
Eventually earth will be hit by something... It maybe tomorrow or it maybe 50,000 years from now, but I suppose we can only hope that humanity will realize realizes that life on earth is tempoary without technology.
Just once I'd like to see a press release where the scientists say "and it can do this useful function right now which we intend to start a spinoff company to commercialise."
If they could do that, they wouldn't need a press release.
One of the concepts that most people should realize is that the main success (and downfall) of the English language is that it can mutate quite easily.
Remember... English is the bastard child of Celtic, Latin, and various other Germanic languages. Language also affects the way the way we think and also is the key limiting factor in grasping concepts.
If your language cannot express a certain concept then you need a way to bend the rules (which English has a bad habit of doing) so that you can share that idea with others.
To enforce a view or a proper method of speaking will often stagnate a societies ability to assimilate new ideas or methods. George Orwell pointed this out when he came up with the idea for new speak in which society can restrain itself from unwanted aspects by removing societies ability to even discuss it.
We obviously do not speak Elizabethan English or the olde English of the Middle ages. Should our descendants be forced to speak an archaic language 200 years from now because we demanded to have our software set in stone what is the proper way to express ideas and communication.
Man, this sounds a bit hippy-esque, but hopefully you understand what I mean.
Still there should be some ground rules to what proper English is and should be so we can understands each other without going "Huh?" but it shouldn't be a hard-line stance that is unchangeable for the next 50 years.
EQ and DikuMud varients have guilding mostly to organize killing MOBs in an efficient matter mostly because the game requires it regardless of the bonding between players.
Games like Ultima Online (pre-Trammel) and Shadow Bane have guilds as its street gangs and warring tribes would. It requires a bit more trust and has quite a bit more politics involved since a player can switch sides and often the group with the bigger number wins.
However sometimes guilds in PvP games are just the biggest organization that every flocks to for protection. I played on Shadow Bane for a bit and joined DHL (Death Head Legion) for a bit because I knew someone in the guild, but apparently they were just letting anyone join. This of course was great for seiges of towns with 100 players vs 30 player combats. Can't say I didn't enjoy it, but it did seem unfair to the people we were steam rolling over.
Well that's fine and dandy, but there is a reason people demand 500gb hard drives. And it's not all to download episodes of Futurama.
Not that I go around devoting entire hard drives to storing high quality jpg files or something like that... *coughs* Not me. I swear! *coughs* But it's the nature of US society even though no one will admit to it.
Possibility two is, the people you've been contracting with here are not a legitimate business, in which case the FBI will arrest you for conspiring with an organized crime group.
Plausible Deniability
And don't forget... You can't arrest a corporation. Just the individuals that work for it. Thirdly, you can't go after the shareholder's assets unless they have been directly implicated in the crime.
Lastly, the crime might have been intentional in order to get the FBI's intention. Of course you'd be dealing with a Class A hacker, but if you wanted to get rid of someone for a while you'd just put illegal underage images on their computer and then attract attention to that computer.
Then again... I'm throwing around terms and ideas that would just make a good murder mystery and no one would apply them to real life.
Still... Leasing out your computers to people outside with the pretext they will protect you is a bad idea.
Apple intends to sell off the Mac, probably with the Apple brandname too.
Public companies don't sell off parts of itself unless facing bankruptcy or outside pressure.
Selling parts of the companies causes the Stock value to drop because they have to split it off to the shareholders so its something they try to avoid.
Now that they will make it, DRM will be a big part of their next OS.
What does that mean? DRM to prevent you from putting OS X on a non-Apple hardware x86? Or does that mean you can't play non-DRM MP3s on OS X or does prevent installation any app that circumvents this?
I'm assuming the former, but the way its put is very vague.
What are we looking for in the asteroids? Are we looking for anything specific? Why are we looking for that?
I don't know what the Japanese scientists are looking for, but these things usually end up opening a portal to hell, releasing a 10,000 year old demon, accidently causing space pirates to avoid intergalatic space police capture, angering a perverted race of aliens with rather large tentacles bent on invading earth, or just plain old waking up something on monster island.
Don't worry... Some young girl who has provacative clothes transformation power will save the day and Ultraman will probaly make a cameo.
How anyone can take away from Katrina the idea that *more* dependence on government is a good idea boggles the mind.
I don't think people's grip was that we didn't have enough dependence, but that FEMA was there and just stood by.
Constitution that gives states power in times of crisis.
Yes. I believe we should go back to the days of ye old states rights too and the federal government has overstepped its bounds, but considering most of the Louisina state guard was not in the state at the time it was very hard for them to react.
We can have a bomber fly from the midwest USA and hit Serbia and come back in one day. Why couldn't we have air dropped military personell onto the streets of New Orleans as soon as it was apparent that the local forces were overwhelmed and trying to survive on their own. We are talking about people's lives here... Not some juristiction issue. If a city was hit by an earth quake or a tidal wave and the local authorities were totally destroyed then someone has to help.
In the matters of personal economics and morality then yes the government should keeps it's hands off states rights, but when it's talking about an event that the states cannot handle and lives are at risk then it's the Federal Governments duty to step in immediately.
and you're not going to save lives by preaching about how government should be better
What if that preaching leads to a change in a system that later saves lives in the future? To say "Oh we couldn't have done anything so let's not change anything because we can't stop it in the future either" is the worst head in the sand mentality a nation could have.
We live in a democracy.
Not to be semantic, but its a republic. If we lived in a democracy we'd have Proportional Representation like Israel does.
If stupid legislation gets passed, we really only have a small group of people to blame.
You mean the handful of people who actually voted?
And exactly what would be the incentive for them to release newly remastered recordings if they can't recoup the costs (let alone make any profit).

But what happens when your AP migrates?
;)
Thats what the KGB agents are for
Psst! Hey Bud, rumor has it that the DS is a portable system.
I know. Sadly, the day I bring my DS into work is the day they fire me for not working.
Damn, I wish I had friends who had a DS, and the same games as me.

Some day people are going to wake up and realize that, well, we are NOT going to solve all the problems here on Earth. Ever.
The Technological Singularity will solve all problems. Or make them a moot point...

Yes, but do the trains run on time?
