  1. Great news. on Tiny Pill Relays Body Temperature of Firefighters In Real-time · · Score: 3, Funny

During rescue-academy studies there is a heat stress test, which is to test the students capabilities under physical workload and lots of heat. They used to use anal thermometers, which were real pain in the ass. So this is great news!

The process network has no connections whatsoever to outside, or even to office network. USB-media is strictly forbidden. Mind you, only thing to make sure of this (oversights and carelesness happens) would be filling the usbports of all the computers with polyurethane. And wireless? IT Security will get in a shitstorm-mode even if you mention wireless anywhere else than in visitor network.

Yes, employers propably do google the possible employee before hiring, but unless you've done (or been accused of) something grandiose, you should be safe.. unless you have very odd name that isn't common.

Now I live in Finland and my full name isn't that common. But as it just happens to be, there lives not one, but two guys who share my FULL name and live in the same part of country too. So if someone ought to google based on my name and location, they would find out that I've been a police chief and also have masters in CS, yay.

As seen in the other dupl... People are so quick to blame Microsoft these days. I work in an automated warehouse which imports most of the consumer electrics in my country. And the guys who pack the merchandise aren't always very gentle, not to mention that a product can drop from the shelf from 8 meters and the package (usually) looks intact, so all you need is some worker who doesn't give a shit (and there are plenty of those everywhere, I tell you!) and just puts it back to the automation. And besides I think guys here are gentle here compared to postal service guys :) So even if you didn't order the product by mail but bought it from the store, it still means it has had some rough trips earlier.

Well there ARE accidents in autobahn. And when you are driving 250 km/h and have an accident, it has a high chance of being a fatal one. And speaking of smart, how smart is to drive that fast, knowing that your viewing angle is very narrow and if you have average reflexes you would've traveled about 60-70 meters from the moment of time t0 (when you notice that you have to duck/break) to t1 (when you actually do break). But I do agree that getting the license in Germany (and many other European countries) is harder.

    But still, too fast, IMHO.

but sadly this is the "trend" of the "modern" businesses and individuals. I've often heard elderlies complain that youth of today have "I want it all now, immediatly" - attitude. But this attitude is present at businesses also.

The company I work in (outside US) had a choice to make a pretty expensive repair on our automated lines that should've had long-term effects, but instead they chose a little less expensive with only short-term effects, and now the repairs have to be made each year. Why the poor choice? Because it took less time to get these productionlines online so also moneylines went online faster.

It's same like in the BBC document when they offered children either a) one piece of chockolate now or b) full chockolatebar in 10 minutes and almost all chose A, because to them, there was no "10 minutes later". But shouldn't the grown ups (especially ones in CEO chairs) have more grasp in time versus expences, or time versus profit?
