Sony and Microsoft are going to sputter out...

They're both multi-billion-dollar corporations that are willing to spend a LOT on this "living room domination" battle. A marked victory for either one would mean huge profits, but there's more to each company than a video game console. M$ obviously has its Windows OS and other hugely successful software programs, while Sony has a huge line of consumer electronics.

Like I said, while losing this battle would be a blow to either company, it wouldn't be the end of their world.

people want THE software their are used to use. Unless the other "new" software is identical to the old software they used to use they wont use it.

That's the way I felt when I started using Firefox - the only reason I stuck with it is because MaximumPC wrote such a glowing review of it. It just takes a little bit of time to switch. Now, I wouldn't use IE for anything.

  16. Re:Skip TFA on Xbox 360 Launch to Face Several Hurdles · · Score: 0

In a lot of people's opinion, it was a game that was NOT a sequel and was relatively unknown that actually made the first Xbox a success. The game I'm referring to, of course, is Halo. I know lots of people who bought an Xbox for the sole purpose of playing Halo (and later Halo 2 as a result). From what I can see, Xbox 360 won't have many of these wildcard games at launch to help potentially boost its success.

I've gotta tell you, I used Yahoo in the pre-gmail days and I could't stand the big, bright, flash-based ads. With Gmail however, the text-only ads fit into a small column on the right-hand side. I can literally go for weeks without even remembering that they're there. In the search engine itself, it's almost the same way - small, unobtrusive, etc. As far as it concerns me, Google might as well be ad-free.
