    After Star Wars Luke had gained "superpowers" and destroyed the Death Star, freeing the galaxy from evil, right?... The Matrix left more questions unanwered than Star Wars and really presented a much smaller victory if you think about it. So Neo can fly around in the Matrix now, big deal.

    Let's think of this another way... Luke simply deleted a an executable binary in someone else's account... whereas Neo gained root. He wasn't just flying around at the end. He saw through the matrix, and could eat the energies of the AIs.

    The matrix was much more Tron than Star Wars. Neo was a much closer analogy to Flynn (a user) than to Luke...

    then why the hell did it take them so long to come down on TiVo? did they want to make sure that the product took off, and grew large enough so that they could make their income in the courthouse, instead of the appliance store?

    it take bravery, hard work and constant diligence to make a company work - particularly in this economy. Imagine if we all sat on our asses patenting everything and suing if/when some brave soul who wants to make a living out there decides to make a move.

    The American gesture is pretty easy to figure out for someone learning the culture, but can anyone explain to me the history of the British gesture? I once heard a crazy rumor that it had something to do with the French and archers.

    It is very difficult to get everything working correctly, seamlessly and most of all... I hate it when I forget words. The word I wanted to use means that something can be operated with little instruction, using only common sense.

    That's because ftp and telnet have no security and shouldn't be used. Particularly when openssh and scp work so well.

    Perhaps instead of running the bleeding edge on your p200, you should go with something more appropriate. I've been running Mandrake 7.0 (with upgraded kernel, apache, ssh, etc.) on my p233 for over 20 months now, and I've got 5 minutes of unintentional downtime.

    As far as using rpms... Use the source Luke, I've never run into problems when going this route. rpms have only caused massive confusion for me when I've tried to install (most notably on redhat systems).

    That's why Steve Jobs is so secretive, and doesn't like to spill the beans until they're ready. When Apple has been ready in the past, they had the store open and taking pre-orders on the new merchandise within hours of the public announcement.



    Perhaps that's what they were going to announce at Apple Expo 2001 in Paris on Sept. 26, though had to cancel due to the attacks. yahoo.com

    Photoshop, well, is Photoshop. Nuff said :-(.

    I can agree with you to a point... but Photoshop is at least $600, depending on which package/deal you buy it with.

    The Gimp is making great strides in not only catching up - but surpassing Photoshop by running as a Cocoa app in OS X. More information can be found at macgimp.org.

    Hmm - you did? When I finally got my ibook triple installed with OS X, OS 9, and LinuxPPC, I tried re-booting into Linux, and it died. Not kernel panic, not crash... just shut off. I couldn't turn it on either. No - the only way to recover was to unplug the power, remove the battery, and try again. Now I have to re-format the linux partition.

    Yes, and Democrats never get campaign contributions from groups who don't have the public's best interest in mind.

    Your subject line says it all. This is Nader's protest here, not the money-bathed politicos. Remember the guy who "stole" Gore's votes. He didn't steal Gore's votes, Gore gave them away for playing up to the large corporations. Nader is the one looking out for the everyman, and not big brother, who is trying to buy and sell your dirt.

    Maybe it's not Michael that's doing the duping, but finger-pointing dissenters in the ranks of people seeking privacy.

    What could possibly be next? The Garbage, Recycling and Sanitation companies installing meters to watch how much of my products I actually use (am I a good consumer?) and selling that info to big brother as well?
