If you are an american citizen that is not a secure method. The gov. has the right to request all keys/passwords if a judge has so ordered. You must pass over the key/password or face jail time. The only way to hide information from the gov. is to make sure they don't know it even exists. I ran across this website a while ago and it's just what I'm talking about. http://www.truecrypt.org/
So you wouldn't mind posting your home address right here on slashdot then would you? I mean, if you don't have anything to hide, right? Just because you aren't breaking the law is by no means saying that you have no right to privacy. I don't do drugs nor have an illegal brothel running out of my bedroom but that doesn't mean I want the DEA or FBI walking into my house every week, "just to be sure."
Simple, I changed my user agent in firefox to "googlebot" which gives me access to a lot of content I wouldn't normally be able to see and secondly when that doesn't work, I hit back and click "cache." Doing one of those has given me the EE answer every time. (course, EE usually doesn't help though)
HA! When they make it so that I can open a 75MB 2000+ page long HTML document without it taking 6 hours and locking up my computer in the meantime, I will consider it. PDF is FAR superior in that aspect. I hate PDF's in general, but when it comes to making LARGE documents, nothing compares to PDF's ability to open and print them with ease. I seriously doubt this would compete on any level.
It all depends on what you call the devil, right? Don't we all call Microsoft the devil? If MS started implanting RFID chips to get into THEIR datacenter would that be the true mark of the beast?
Anyone who dares say that they don't have enough time for "work" can't honest have any self respect calling themselves a nethacker. I demand that this blasphemous book be stricken of the sacred word "nethack."
In all seriousness. I found my solution to having no time to complete my projects. I quit and got a less demanding sysadmin job.
"AdBlock often interferes with Gmail's chat features, causing Firefox to crash. Well, after I actually RTF, I found that quote. So it appears that the blurb of this article was just FUD and that Adblock is just a temporary glitch and the services will work just fine in the future! Now I can happily go back to google worshipping.
I'm sorry, but there is no way that I will disable Adblock to gain access to ay "feature" that google may offer. I love my google services as much as the next guy but there is no way that I will give up my ad free existance for it. Not when there are so many other free alternatives out there that do allow me to "hack" out the ads
I actually like seeing the ads. Every once in a while I see a website that paid for the ad that is better than the "free" links provided by google. On a side note, I also like clicking on the websites run by "fly-by-night" companies just to drive up their advertising costs.
As a rule of thumb I never trust wikipedia as absolute truth, but for this comment we'll accept it as true. I thought I had heard that there were over 200K developers on the 2K team, they might have just been contractual and not full time employees, namely Indian programmers. This is the reasoning for my 300K number.
I think one of the quickest and easiest solutions to this problem is to NOT setup the operating user account to Administrative rights. Sheesh! How hard is it to give it "user" rights by default and force them to use/runas?!
Also funny is how all the AdSense ads are how to fix/repair Internet Explorer and yet none of them lead to mozilla.com. Google is slacking in their relative ad department.
If security is really a prime concern of Microsoft, why is it that new OS's are now getting the main focus of the dev teams? I don't know the exact number of coders in Microsoft, but it must be above 300,000. Why not have dev teams specific to each OS performing their roles? Why push back SP 3 for XP to develop Vista?
Any person who has ever worked in an company knows that most companies lag behind when it comes to OS deployment. Isn't supporting and fixing bugs/exploits just as important to security as releasing the newest incarnation of MS Windows, which just brings on a new onslaught of bugs/exploits of their own?
Absolutely, go with dual, trip or quad monitor setups. I still to this day refuse to use LCD, if only for the fact that I can't get an LCD monitor with 1600x1200 res. I bought 2 19" CRT's with 1600x1200 res for $60 each. That's cheaper than a 15" Dell LCD that does 1024x768 and I got 3200x1600 res AND the ability to throw things on 2 different monitors which increased my productivity many times. Since I also have dual at work and at home I can remotely login to each and get my full desktop real estate on both computers.
Why is it that except for the very large 20"+ LCD monitors it's impossible to get 1600x1200 res or better? I bought a laptop 6 years ago that had UXGA+ 1600x1200 res but I can't find an LCD monitor anywhere on the planet under 20" with that res or better. Anyone know of one? Or, anyone know how to disassemble old UXGA+ laptop screens and reframe them with new adapaters so they can plug into a vid card?
I just can't seem to understand the companies that sell these things, I know that 1280x1024 is the size they seem to sell but you take one look around the office of any company and you'll see 90% of the office has resized their screens to 800x600 or 1024x768. It seems silly of them to stop at 1280x1024.
You messed up a litte there. You don't pay the cable company money every month so that the "programs" are there. You pay the cable company so that they can "deliver" the programs to you. Having Video on Demand will not change the number of commercials put into content only the cost of delivering the content to you. You could NEVER afford to actually pay for the content to be created w/o commercials subsodizing them.

I'm definatly going to check this program out. Thanks for the linkage. Keeping my WMP 6.4 installation on XP is growing more and more difficult. I find myself being locked out of so many codecs as MS decides that only WMP 7/9 should get new codecs. I've now just started playing everything that won't currently play in WMP 6.4 in WinDVD.

I whole heartedly agree with you. Real has only themselves to blame for their crappy software. The fact of the matter is it's a peice of shit. WMP 6 was awesome. It did one thing, played movies. Plain and simple and it did it well. Real decided it needed to do 400 things and on top of it run 3 different.exe's to do it. Real player itself, the tray notification shit and the Real auto updater. I don't need that many freaking exe's running. Just give a button to click that says "Update me". Nor do I need ANOTHER taskbar program launcher that "speeds up" applications. I don't mind waiting 10 seconds for the HDD to rev up and find my program. Instead I wait 30 seconds for it to page all my taskbar launcher programs to disk so that it can load the damn program. Nice going Real.
I just found the most amazing tool to do the same thing as this. I know it's a lot more complicated but I think us slashdotters can figure it out. "top" or for you windoze people, ctrl-shift-esc. Lots o' luck to ya.
Where the hell are my mod points??!! I'd mod you up to 9000 if I could.
