the US National Ignition Facility. The NIF will be used for multiple exercises, however, the devices main roles will be nuclear weapons testing for the United States, and fusion power experiments.
If it only took 6 months for NASAs Deep Impact probe to reach Tempel 1, why didn't ESA just send the Rosetta probe (with its comet lander) there, instead of waiting until 2014 (launched in 2004) for it to reach its destination? From the imformation i have read there is nothing to suggest a fundamental difference between the comets. If it came down to which mission was more "important", Rosetta would win hands down. Does anyone know the answer to this?
Is that the sound turkeys make? ahh who cares. Ive never understood the phrase "cold turkey", as far as im concerned the only good turkey is a cold turkey anyway. Is windows an addiction you have to quit? hmmm... Thats like telling an Americ...sorry, obese person to take up crack becuase Ronald McD's is bad for health. I.E. Windows:bad, Linux:vomit, MacOS:... Brgle brgle!
We all know about global warming, but there is also the theory of "global dimming", which been backed up by extensive research. The global dimming theory says that the true extent of global warming is being masked by pollution particles, which block out UV rays and therefore prevents them from warming the planet. The cruel irony is that if we move to a %100 renewable, non-pulluting energy existance, these UV blocking particles will dissipate back to natural levels, thus allowing more UV to bounce around in the greenhouse, and exposing us to the full effect of global warming!
The greenhouse particles exist for greater than 100 years, meaning the only solution would be to remove both the greenhouse particles and the UV blocking particles, how that may be achieved is unclear.
"...and is expected to be used in commercial applications very soon..." , Hmmm, hasn't that been the case for the past decade? That's what my inner cynic says, anyway. Just like the fuel cell revolution, not to mention the nuclear fusion revolution.
Sure, giving away free wifi is sure to make your customers like you very much, but if Google continues to provide these free services, they're going to encounter a proportional backlash when (if?) it comes time to charge for some services. Yes, Wifi services are cheap to set up, but sooner or later shareholders are going to demand more than just advertising revenue.
"Smackdown"...? I prefer playstation over Nin and xbox, but even I am considering getting a 360 just because i could be bothered waiting 6 months (after 360 is released), and i would definitely get one if the ps3 was due in 2007. There would be no advantage to sony, but every advantage to MS as it would have over a year to become entrenched. I would happy grab a 360, as the ps2s graphics look like cat vomit!
Hasnt Bitzi been doing this for years? The major pain about Bitzi thought is that people are too lazy to comment on good files, its only when they get VISTA's;) that they comment.
"People should not be affraid of their government, the government should be affraid of their people". There were a couple of other lines in there that made me cringe, but the Nazi-Germany style is refreshing:)
...dont know what the hell OSS is. Average users shit their pants when you ask them to choose the "right distro for them", "WTF is a distro?" they say, "Who the fuck are you and what are you doing in my house?" usually follows. You see, linux is overwhelming from the very beginning eg:
Choose a browser:
1.IE or, 2.Firefox
Choose an OS:
1.Latest Windows or, 2.Latest OSX or, 3.Linux (Fedora, Gentoo, Slackware, Ubuntu, MEPIS, Mandriva, KNOPPIX, Debian, and so-on and so-on.
And to add to the problem, no single distro has a perfectly rounded feature set; decent GUI or simplicity etc. In addition noobs HATE the command line, the quickest way to turn someone of linux is to force them to try to use it for some insignificant function that should be able to be accomplished without it. OK...I can feel myself rambling and my spelling going out the window, So basically my message is to conglomorate all of the features of the various distros into one powerful package, make it SIMPLE to use, relagate the command line to power-users only, and have a SINGLE prominant distro that the average Joe can instantly think of when you ask them about linux. Call it UniLin or some crap, or heck just call that distro LINUX
sorry for my incoherant rambling, but I really think that these things are preventing linux from becoming mainstream. Someone take up the challenge (heck, contact me thru/.and i'll direct the damn project!)
... 'til George "dubya" Bush delivers his speach [actually not his 'cos the basement full'o monkeys wrote it] somewhere along the lines of:
"This is a monumental day for America. We have learnt our lessons from Columbia and now we continue in our quest to explore the universe, blah, blah, blah, To promote our great nations technological superiority its is my commitment to slash NASA's budget buy 50% within the next three years, blah, blah, blah, (more pseudo-patriotic rhetoric appealing to the working class), blah, blah, blah, and that is why we must invade Iran.
The construction of ITER should (hopefully) see the construction of the worlds first energy positive fusion reactor (ie it produces more energy than it uses). however the question is wether the amount of energy produced can power an entire city or if it can barely power a 12W light globe. Hopefully there will be enough research dollars in the future to answer that question.
The space shuttle program was ruined in its early days by too
many government/military/nasa requirements, in short they wanted it to
be a "jack of all trades", but because most of the shuttles
functionality and specifications are rarely used, it turned out to be
"a master of none" because of all the bloat. each flight costs in the
order of $500 million rather than initial projections of $10 to $20
million!
The Crew Exploration Vehicle appears to be on the right track, just as
the shuttle concept was, lets just hope they dont make the same
mistakes again! oh well, if they mess this one up too we can always
look forward to the future European EADS Phoenix reusable launch
vehicle!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_shuttle Read how the shuttle designers were forced to compromise because of poor funding, and how that initial 'saving' has turned into another allmighty cost blowout. Those near-sighted politicians!!

...wether the PS3 comes with a HDD, but rather, how many developers decide to utilise it. Why the FUCK would sony condemn us gamers to agonising load-screens and less complex environments by making the HDD "optional"!?
They did something exactly like this with the PS2s GS (CPU in sony speak), except i think it was billed as a CG movie renderer. It was called the GScube, and i remember that one of its demo scenes had thousands of ants from the 'Bugs Life' movie rendered in realtime. It was a nice bit of tech, but as far as i know no one in the industry bothered with it. I dare say that this Cell-based server is just another GScube, only there to generate hype for the Cell/PS3, just as the GScube did for the GS/PS2. I have no problem with it if that is the case tho.
