  1. I dont quite grasp how this generates energy on Water Now More Awesome Than Previously Thought · · Score: 1

Something that is cold is inherintly less energetic than anything hot. That doesnt mean it wont work, rather it means that even at 100% effeciency it wont be generation as much as a hot system (heat is just a measure of how fast atoms are vibrating). I am desperatley waiting for the fusion revolution in +/- 50 years tho, i drool at the thought of unlimited energy. It will happen, but our narrow-sighted leaders just dont understand the potential of it, and dont invest in it, and then it gets delayed :(

  7. programmability on PlayStation 3 Unveiled · · Score: 2, Interesting

After all is said and done about the design, the real make-or-break will be the ease of programmability. As im sure you have heared, the ps2 was a nightmare to code for compared to the xbox. ps2 games slowly increased in graphical complexity as developers learned how to get the most out of the ps2. The xbox plateaued very early as devs learnt how to get the most out of it very quickly (due to its familiar architecture). Now hears the thing: CELL. Its the ps3's strongest asset, but potentially its greatest liability, if it proves to be a nightmare to code for. I have a strange feeling that two powerpc cores (or whatever the fuck the 360 has) will be a hell of a easier to code for than the unique eight string (?) CELL. I just hope im wrong though, because i beleive the ps3 has a lot more potential. Thats your hardware lesson for the day folks, now let your teacher drown his sorrows in his cheap imported brandy.

  9. xbox 360 design...uninspired on The Xbox 360 Unveiled · · Score: 4, Interesting
The designers were very motivated, but they lacked the tallent and high standards to make something truly visually exceptional. The design concept: "inhaling", this sounds like a high school design project. I cant knock them on the hardware front, but its just very visually uninspired (perhaps to motivate clip-on-cover sales?). The consoles exterior belies its future sigificance, which is a bit disappointing. Have a squiz at Inhabitat for a look at the future of design.

On a different note, congratulations to the xbox 360 marketing team, who pulled out all the stops: constant "leaks" heading up to the launch, the first next-gen console shown off, launched on TV, by a pop show, and by celeberities! Not to mention the whole colony buisness. Full marks Microsoft marketing team.

The notion of having a national standard for ID is understandable, but the bill actually states that: "no court shall have jurisdiction to hear any cause or claim arising from any action undertaken, or any decision made, by the Secretary of Homeland Security, or order compensatory, declaratory, injunctive, equitable, or any other relief for damage alleged to arise from any such action or decision." This quite literaly places the Secretary of Homeland Security above the law. This MUST be unconstitutional. Once again i feel very sorry for you. If this got proposed in my country (Australia) i would fight it with a public information campaign, which would be in addition to my countries relatively effective checks and balances halting it in its tracks.
