Nope, FTTP - Fibre To The Premises. FTTN was the failed model that Tony Rabbit and his cronies want to use. Noncompetitive, more expensive, and slower...but, of course, provided by "Private Enterprise" - which has worked SO WELL for us in the past...
I meant it was interesting that you differentiate between "sharing binaries" and "copyright infringement."
There ARE free usenet servers that are text-only. Or, you could do as I do, and pay for a premium usenet provider. Consider it a barrier of entry - if you're bright enough to setup a usenet client, AND willing to pay for a subscription, AND post in the text-only groups, then you're probably someone worth talking to - sort of a reverse "Eternal September" if you will.
Do yourself a favor, and flick of TED for usenet, sabnzbd, sickbeard, and couchpotato. Forget about seeding, copyright notices, etc etc etc. Sickbeard is where its at.
If you're going to all this effort, and already have usenet - ditch torrents completely. I can highly recommend the sickbeard/couchpotato/headphones/sabnzbd setup.
Last time I went to a auto show, they had the then-new Ferrari 575.
I waved the sales guy over from beyond the velvet rope (the unwashed crowds not being allowed to mix with the "real" customers) and asked him "how much is a 100,000 kilometer service on one of those things?"
the reply?
"none of our vehicles/ever/ do that many kilometers."
Delivered with just the right amount of "how dare you even THINK about driving your Ferrari that much? For shame, sir. FOR SHAME." sneering.
All new macs have DisplayPort (well, Mini-DP, but there's a adapter) and most Dell Monitors (that aren't the budget rubbish) have them, as well. My GTX580 has a displayport, er, port - and I've got it running to my dell 27", which also happens to do audio.
The reason why gaming PC's don't really need to be upgraded any more is summed up in one word:
Consoles.
(almost) every game these days is crossplatform. The 360 is six years old. The PS3? Five. Granted, the fact that they are a "known target" makes optimising games for consoles easier - but you're still dealing with 5+ year old GPU, CPU, and RAM limits. I predict that gaming PC's will fight the catch-up wars again when the next generation of consoles (serious consoles, that is - forget the WiiU) are released, along with 4k TV's.
yep, i'll second (third?) the plex recommendation. I'm now running the server on my linux fileserver, serving up to OSX clients, android clients, iOS clients, you name it. We have 2 iPhones, a iPad, a ASUS android tablet, a windows machine, and two macs - a mac mini and a macbook pro - all connected to the same server. Works flawlessly.
I think you're shopping at the wrong ISP's. Both TPG and DODO have indicated they'll be doing unlimited NBN, and PennyTel already have plans.

Its original purpose being...discussion?

Interesting that you differentiate between the two.
Meaningless 'understanding' noises to make when listening to their woes
mmm.
Twelve years on...still relevant.

Correct horse battery staple.
You binged to ping? But what of the friend that smoked the bong and played pong?
You mean Dave?
Dave's not here, man...

Look closely.
Look at sickbeard, sabnzbd, couchpotato, and headphones.
I'm gonna level with you.
I was expecting another "cleanmyPC" spam.
Did you know we have pizza subs in Australia, too?

Then it'll be put-up or shut-up time.
I think you mean "Push up or shut-up time."
nononono.
*dogs* bach all night long.
Unlike like Adobe Reader and Flash no one uses Java except as way to install malware on computers.
Not true, Oracle eBusiness Suite's front-end is written in java, and uses the java plugins.
But for the Nintendo Wii I've exhausted the top quality games for that system.
What...both of them?
Yeah. You should never make decisions because your future self might disagree with your past self!
Smokers would agree with you, there.
Did you try pressing the power button on the PC? If that doesn't work, hold it down for five seconds.
Every time I have to do that, it feels like i'm holding a pillow over my PC's face. "Shhh....shhhhh. It will all be over soon..."

*throwing* urine at you? Methinks that there would be a altogether more direct delivery method.

I KNEW IT!

Suppose in the (not too distant) future, next to no one ops to buy entire CDs vs. a single track. Won't all artists then be one or two hit wonders?
Aren't most of them already one-hit wonders?
