Wow! I bet streaming audio must suck! Since I didn't RTFA I don't know whether they're only talking about WMP or not, but playing MP3's over the network on Winamp results in crackly sound on my desktop. So yes, it does suck.
Or, you could download Autopatcher and get every update in one easy download. This also makes things wonderfully easy when you need to patch a fresh XP install, all you need is that disc to be completely up to date.
I also like the fact that WGA is clearly listed as "Optional" when choosing which components to install.
Do all PC gamers have an Xbox or like its controller?
That's not the point. Obviously game publishers are going to support multiple gamepads, but if I know plugging in a 360 controller will Just Work I'd be one happy camper.
Some games are just suited better to gamepads (or alternative inputs to the keyboard) but just don't work that well. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory worked perfectly with a modded (original) Xbox controller, and I wondered "Why can't all games work this well?". The dual analogue sticks worked, and the buttons were easily configured. FIFA 2006 just WOULDN'T WORK with it, no matter how hard I tried, and it frustrated the hell out of me. Nobody's forcing you to use a gamepad, and I'll stick with a mouse for my FPS's, but you're taking a pretty short-sighted view of things.
Also remember to seek out your nearest particle accelerator when being pursued by a T-X. They are very difficult to kill, or even slow down, but a particle accelerator will buy you some time and it also looks very impressive. Just remember to flick the "On" switch on the terminal before you go in, otherwise you're fucked.
Hydrogen based batteries will allow you to destroy the robot, but only if they are Sony-branded. Just bring it out of it's coupling and ram it down her gob and duck behind the nearest blast door.
Of course, all of this is for naught, because Judgment Day is inevitable. But you'll be richer for the experience, and it will give you some material for that novel you've been working on, so it's not all bad.
...will be happy to ignore these rules, like the rest of the country will, as we have since it was illegal to tape shows on the VCR. Stupid laws like these mean nothing to anyone, and nobody is going to enforce a rule saying you can't sing "Happy Birthday" in public.
Startup Tabs (you usually go to the same round of sites when you turn on in the morning, so...)
It's not obvious, but you can do this already in Firefox 1.5.x (any maybe in 1.0.x?) by setting your start page to site1|site2|site3. This will open each site in a new tab when you first open the browser.
Everyone was shouting Conroe before AM2 had even been released. Budget processors? Intel are unloading NetBurst by the truckload. High performance? Conroe it is.
How about a vacuum cleaner? Pair of heated gloves? Anti-cubicle missile system?
A pair of heated gloves? What a brilliant idea! Until, ya know, you have to actually go outside. In the cold. There ain't an extension cord long enough.
I find the very notion of quantam computing so complex that just reading the article's title made my head explode. Luckily there was a quantam wormhole within my skull that reassembled my head and brain, with no side effects whatsoever!
I can just imagine the conversation in the R&D department.
Executive: This had better not be another one of those damn 640x480 screens...
Engineer: No sir! This is brand new technology!
Executive: [Walks to test bench]. What the hell is this? I told you NO 640x480 resolutions!
Engineer: No no, you're looking at it from the wrong angle [rotates screen 90 degrees to the right]. This is a 480x640 monitor!
Executive: My God, you've done it again...
The federation is also considering using a new Chinese law that came into effect July 1 that fines distributors of illegally copied music, movies and other material over the Internet as much as 100,000 yuan ($12,500). As of today, Chinese search engines operated by Yahoo China and Baidu.com provide links to other Web sites hosting illegally copied songs.
The law says a Web site is jointly liable with the host of the pirated files for infringement ``if it knows or should know that the work, performance or sound or video recording linked to was infringing.''
Apparently there is no such law in Western countries.
I tried a couple of readers, and settled on RSS Owl because it was OS independent, which a scant few readers are (to the best of my knowledge).
The problem with this was when when dual-booting, I couldn't see which feeds I'd already checked and which I hadn't, as this was organised client-side. Also, when I was at uni and had some time to kill, I had to check sites the "old-fashioned" way.
So I switched to Bloglines. It constantly monitors feeds, and this is important for those feeds that only show the last 10 updated items; on a high volume site (such as Slashdot) this isn't enough. I ended up missing news items this way, which is not optimal.

Just give them all tin-foil hats and be done with it.

We recommend that you not save the game while you're poisoned
Well obviously! You should be calling the poisons hotline so they can help you not die.
If only every game were so considerate in giving such practical advice.
Yeah, well, Microsoft has break-dancers and Sony makes me want to sleep.

Also spreading like a virus: Boring Excel graphs.
Powerpoint presentation coming soon! Now with the "zooming car" sound effect!
get [their] hands dirty with a little python
Am I the only one who was thinking something entirely unrelated to a programming language?

I like stories.
You forgot porn.
I think Google could use a few Kleenex brand tissues. Boo-hoo.
In other news, Halley's Comet is expected to pass by Earth sometime in 1986. It should be quite a sight!
Um, isn't that just a 640x480 screen on its side?
I can just imagine the conversation in the R&D department.

I'd actually be more worried about sparing YouTube some bandwidth.
Millions of dollars of capital -> YouTube -> ? isn't really a viable business model.
Using a mechanism similar to a ball mouse
Pfft... Let me know when they've developed a mechanism similar to a laser mouse.

Apparently there is no such law in Western countries. That's exactly what we all are now. "Consumers" not "people".
Don't worry, it'll be in the torrent. I should be able to download the 1.5TB in about 347 days. Just hope a few people seed this.
