I'm still not sure why cooking is always lumped in with the stereotypical female thing. There's a lot of guys that are good cooks, and some of the best professional chefs you see on the food network are men. There are surveys out there that show that cooking is not just a female-dominated thing. Women are more likely to cook, "for the family", so it's more of their chore. Men are more likely to cook as a hobby, so they get into some of the more gourmet stuff. So I'd say this "stereotype" is "busted",...

In order for that to work, we would also have to redesign most major metropolitan areas in the US, except for maybe New York, Boston, and a handful of other cities. Most US cities, and especially suburbs, are not designed for walking/cycling traffic. They're designed for cars. I'm all about encouraging people to walk more, but there's also a significant safety issue in encouraging people to walk down your average suburban highway with no sidewalks and a parking lot in front of every building,... Make sure you compare apples to apples here. I think a lot of Panera customers order the "You Pick Two" deals, so instead of a full sandwich, you only get half a sandwich, a soup, and your choice of bread or fruit/vegetables. The half sandwiches are on par, and in some cases slightly less calories, than the McDonald's offerings. Plus, most of their soups (even something like Broccoli Cheddar or Cream of Chicken, blow the living crap out of McD French Fries. Well, except on the sodium -- you're right about the sodium. ;-)

Non-Disclaimer: I don't work for Panera Bread, or McDonald's. I work on an urban University campus that has both McDs and Panera. I've eaten at the Panera, not at the McDs. Students seem to love the Panera, but it's still not overflowing to the point of not being able to find a seat (then again, the campus itself offers free wi-fi, too, so that kind of defeats the purpose of businesses offering it). I have yet to set foot in the McDs on campus -- can't stand the smell of the joint. Last two times I ate McDs, I threw up. I'll gladly pay a few bucks more for food if I don't regurgitate it afterwards, thankyouverymuch!

Perhaps McDonald's real issue is that the cheap-ass prices of their food are drawing in everybody and everybody, whereas Panera is a bit more expensive, so doesn't draw in the lower-class crowds, so there's more room for more people.

Like ICANN has done such a wonderful job in its stewardship of domain names to begin with! Let's start off with such useful TLDs like .museum, .aero, .biz (a spammer's haven), and .info (another spammer's haven)! Does anybody even use these anymore? And they never really could figure out what to do with .xxx, either. And let's not forget that their proposal to let people buy TLDs is motivated primarily by greed.

Still, I'm not sure that more international oversight would solve this. We'll probably just see more useless TLDs added to an already overcrowded conglomerate of crap, and .xxx will still go nowhere (unless, maybe, if we put the Dutch in charge, because they seem to have made Amsterdam work out ;-). Nevertheless, I can understand why other nations may want to have a say in things. After all, while the U.S. may have "invented the internet", the most popular "application", the World Wide Web, was invented by a British scientist at CERN, in Europe. I'm not so sure that our original version of the internet would have taken off quite as well with out Sir Berners-Lee's invention?
