Didn't we just read about how PR begets bullshit news stories? Case in point: TFA.
Really, there's nothing but crap in that article. Taking a step back, it looks like it has a lot to do with Rojo's launch and a bit to do with NewsGator.
Of course, we all know the best aggregator is going to be Gmail...once it trickles down. For now, Bloglines will suffice.
And no, reading/subscribing to hundreds of feeds does not take more time than actually visiting all the sites. What the hell?
I'm a wordpress user. I didn't see any "Wordpress needs your help, and $5!" text on the site lately. Maybe I missed it? I haven't donated to wordpress because there are a thousand open source projects out there and it's not so easy to decide where to send your hard earned, free software supporting cash. But if I saw wordpress was in trouble, it'd make that decision a lot easier. There's no way they exhausted all other options before dipping into the Google-TOS-defying low they've reached. Oh well. Live and learn. Nothing gold can stay.
We don't need the government hiding (censoring) information from minors, we need parents to start acting like parents and raising their kids themselves. This is what the government should focus on...the more we rely on the gov't to raise children, the more those children are going to rely on the gov't to raise their children once they've grown up. The cycle is never ending, and doesn't have a very bright future.
Man, I didn't expect all the positive reaction to my Dreamweaver comment! Sadly, I don't code commericially or for fun in Dreamweaver...I code in vim and kate. Linux, of course. I haven't paid for ANY software in a long time, with the exception of all the default bundled stuff like WindowsXP Dell sells you with a new PC. I work for an open source-based company and try to keep my entire computing experience as open source/free software-based as possible. And about that Windows I paid for...I dual boot that particular machine, as it's handy to now and then load up Windows and see what the industry buzz is about. Dreamweaver was one such industry buzz, and it didn't really grab me. Seems to be focused more towards web designers than coders, so I'll stick with my free open source tools. Thanks, though.
Flash is really annoying, but there are times I don't mind it. Most band sites I visit are in Flash, and usually the site's style corresponds closely to the band's most recent album's style which is kinda cool. Green Day's site is a good example of Flash I don't hate.
But Flash ads? Flash nav-bars? Entirely Flash-based sites for products and companies? I don't think I'm alone when I say the web should stay HYPERTEXT based because that's what it is designed for. The web can be as dynamic as it wants to, and languages like php and asp are one of the best examples of the direction the web should be heading, but they're also a good example of where the web should not be heading: flashing lights, obnoxious sounds that play when you visit a site, dynamic and processor-intense media which displays over the page you want to view. So Flash is kind of on thin ice with me right now...
And now they're pulling this stunt? Sorry, but no. Good thing I never paid Macromedia for my copy of Dreamweaver...Hopefully Mozilla doesn't make me eat my words, though. I gave them money (donated) and now they're getting awfully touchy feely with Google...

Troika Games Closes

The game industry is looking more and more like the music and movie industries every day. Soon EA and all the other big corporate names will have eliminated competition, formed an RIAA/MPAA style ruling body, and then actively attack piracy. And thank god, because look at how good popular music is today! I can't wait for game quality to keep sliding as huge companies buy up as many licenses they can and flood the market with crap while companies like Troika can't even pay the rent...
Acquisitions and mergers HAVE worked for Microsoft.
So...what the fuck? You guys are "disagreeing" with me by re-iterating and expanding upon the point I made? Mandrakesoft apparently thinks this "corporate strategy" is the way to go, a strategy employed by many successful companies such as Microsoft. Microsoft, as far as I know, has the biggest cash reserve of any company. So yeah. It worked for Microsoft. Thanks.
In the early 1900s, the MPAA's predecessor (the MPPC, Motion Picture Patent Company) was broken up by the U.S. Gov't due to monopolistic practices. Non-MPPC independent movie studios, like Fox, quickly rose to power and formed the MPAA. Deja vu. My only hope is that our government cares enough about its own laws to see that once again, there are monopolies controlling major industries doing whatever the hell they want.
So 100% agreed. Outlaw the RIAA. The gov't has the power, and the reasons, but do they have the balls? Doubtful, very doubtful.
No one really cares what you thought of those shows. Family Guy's DVDs sold so well Fox decided to bring it back, and Firefly's DVDs sold so well they decided to make a major motion picture to tie up the series.
Not saying "Your taste is wrong," but saying "Fox made a huge mistake. These shows make money and have fans, but were cancelled."
As soon as I saw "Power corrupts. Power failure corrupts absolutely" I thought, the damn commies finally did it! But no, not hacked by commies...just by a renegade circuit breaker.
Don't know about online cigarette buying? You can buy cartons of cigarettes from places like http://yesmoke.ch for as little as $15. They include most brands, including Lucky Strike and other hard-to-find (in Cincinnati) gems. The $15 is cheap, but only if you don't mind waiting three weeks for your smokes.
I do like their food...but I wouldn't pay $6.50 for a turkey sandwich. While $6.50 isn't "expensive" to a lot of Panera customers, it's wayyyy overpriced compared to cost and probably how they afford to give away all that cordless Internet I've been reading about.
I worked at Panera for a year and the location I worked at had free WiFi. As a result, we had our fair share of business-suit men and tea-sipping hippies who would bring in their laptops and just laugh the day away with their free intorweb access.
It seemed to me that the laptop people were always the ones buying a single cup of coffee or just a soda, rather than a whole meal. This leads me to believe that frequent Internet users are more intelligent than non-frequent Internet users, because who the fuck would buy food from Panera?

But this is a bit silly. Star Wars Episode I and Episode II sucked. Nothing silly about that. Next quest, please.

...some people thought SCO stood a chance? Yeah, you guys were wrong. Sorry. Go Linux.

Hrm...sounds familiar...

We start with: "Ancillary does not mean you get to rule the world...You've gone too far. Are washing machines next?" (Edwards)
Followed by: "You can't regulate washing machines. You can't rule the world." (Sentelle)
Tag team attack! Now if only we could get one of them to hear the lokitorrent.com case or, better yet, outlaw the RIAA...
Not saying "Your taste is wrong," but saying "Fox made a huge mistake. These shows make money and have fans, but were cancelled."
Thus, Fox should die.
After all, TV cancelled Firefly and Family Guy. Wait, just Fox. Just Fox needs to die.

Yes, even if it's your spouse. Nothing new. Next story.
