After 6 months, and a team of engineers onsite from the vendor, they still couldn't get the components to talk for more than a day without problems (after weeks of installation), and still couldn't get useful data out of the database due to its size, so we took our $500mil back and bought something else.

    ( BTW, this is using the latest vanilla kernel 2.6.9, so backlevelling the driver to NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6111-pkg1.run doesn't work! )

    --Tell me about it. Up till now I haven't had a problem, but their latest Linux driver ( NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg1.run ) breaks compat with my PCI TNT2 (Guillemot) card. X freezes so hard that you have to reboot to get the display back. SSH still works however; but there is a huge slowdown on all processes, even during ' reboot '.

    --I'm about to yank teh stupid card out and just use the mobo Intel at this point; Nvidia's driver has been broken since November 5!

    --HOWEVER... The **hard** part is getting **everyone** to buy into the idea of walking out, much less doing this at the same time. Mass revolt would be a very good idea, but:

    1. They should have done it a long time ago

    2. Doing it NOW probably wouldn't change much (but if I were them, I'd definitely walk out en masse.)

    --Bottom line, what EA is doing SUCKS. Personally, I make it a point to tell my manager that I'm not going to work 16 hour shifts, but then again I work at a gas station. ;-)

    o Investigate getting a used parallel port 100Meg Zip drive. I successfully installed Win98 on an old laptop that had a floppy but no CDROM with one, by copying the CD install files over to the HD.

    --I pretty much agree with you on all counts. (In fact, I walked out of a Fight Club DVD viewing when they revealed the "secret ingredient" of the soap. It just grossed me out too much.)
