You earn $100K in NZ your marginal tax rate is 33c which kicks in at $70K. The other main source of Govt revenue is GST (sales tax) which is now 15% thanks to the National Party Government. There are few exemptions from GST (interest, rent & mortgages. Exports are zero-rated) so the lower paid sure pay their whack.

In NZ we produce Meat, dairy products etc far cheaper than the UK even when taking into account shipping costs. That's shipping by sea BTW, save your food-miles for when you are getting flowers air-freighted from Kenya. All this would do is make food more expensive for everybody involved.

If and when there is a correction the next breed/ style of games will come through.

Currently sourced hydrogen does not come from electricity. It comes from hydrocarbons, it CAN come from elctricity/ water but it is much easier to extract hydrogen from oil, natural gas etc. Then again shifting the pollution off the rods and back towards the generating plants could make it easier to control in countries that give a s**t about the enviroment. You could always look at power stations that do not run on fossil fuels.

Interesting to see the changes that PC/ console gaming has wrought upon the film industry. It has given them a new line up of tired ideas to create pretty, but dull, movies. Especially in the action genre are we far from where the films are basically promos for the game? After all it allows the financiers able to cash in not only on the movie (NZ$15) but also the game as well. The games (NZ$100) are always much longer and give a more immersive feel than the movies and keep interest alive until the inevitable sequel.

Not all peoples have the time or money to go to University/ College to get a shiny degree. Certification via CCNA, A+, MCSE etc is a comparitively cheap and time-effective manner of getting specific and relevant training on a particular topic. Also it shows a minimum level of competency and understanding and also that you have enough gumption to get off your ass and do some work. Certification & Tertiary qualifications are similar in that all they do is give you a framework or skeleton of knowledge to further develop. Certification necessarily is a smaller framework due to its time & topic limitations but still a basically complete runthrough. Those who are trained but not qualified may find it difficult to convince prospective employers that they have the requisite skills.

Goods & Services Tax also exists in New Zealand levied at 12.5% as opposed to the Australian 10%. It is a consumption tax similar to the UK's VAT but is on pretty much all goods and services. A range of exclusions exist (in NZ) on rent, exports, financial services etc. It replaced a raft of Sales Taxes of differing rates and has made tax collection that much easier and efficient. It is not mandatory to show a GST exclusive price but consumers expect the final price to include GST and get snotty when it is not. As to EBay, ha, we have http://www.trademe.co.nz/. EBay never got any traction and Trademe is the one used.
