  1. i just rejoined, then quit again 10 minutes later on World of Queuecraft · · Score: 1

I was gone from WOW for a few months. I'm a casual gamer, only play 10hours a week or so, but still find it fun. Imagine my surprise when I logged on for the first time in months to play, only to be hit with a 20+minute queue to login to the server! Needless to say, I logged right out, cancelled my membership. It was so quick, they didn't even have time to charge me. And if they did, I'd have disputed it with my CC company. That is rediculous.

Actually, thats only partially true. When golf first started, they had a guy called a 'fore-caddy' - his job was to walk out in front of you, to see where your ball landed, and guide you to it after you hit it.

Calling out 'Fore!' let him know to keep an eye out for the ball.

Nowadays, it just kinda means 'duck!' though :)

  6. the value lies in the HR department on What's the Point of IT Certifications? · · Score: 1
for me (I am not currently certified in anything. Certifiable, yes), it lies in gaining access to the actual hiring manager. I don't have a formal college education. HR types that see a cert on my resume are more likely to pass my resume onto the actual hiring manager. Or, some resume database will see the cert, and pass it on.

I have no problem landing a job, once I get to meet the hiring manager. I have the skills, and the experience. The problem for me is getting past the HR drones and automated systems, that don't know a good resume from a bad one, and only screen based on education and certs.

My guess is that if you've lowered your suspension that low, you've actually HURT your handling, just for looks. Here is a good website:

  8. Re:Cheaper?-Service with a smile. on Spyware Removal: Drop PC in Dumpster · · Score: 1

$100 is actually pretty good for spyware removal. Figure $50/hr, which is a very conservative rate, and a nasty spyware infection, that Spybot or Adaware don't remove, or can't. So, you go registry diving, ripping things out, rebooting into safe mode, etc. Next thing you know, 3 hours has passed. That 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of a new machine. If you don't think that spyware removal is worth $50.hr, then just do it yourself. But most people don't have the skills, and have to pay.

AND he gets a job in the antivirus industry. Sounds more like a reward than a punishment. If I ran a multinational company that was hit bad by this, I'd be in civil court suing the hell out of him right now. He deserves to be in jail, not reaping rewards for his behavior.

They are used for 99.9% utility uses. If you are ever in a situation where you have to use your knife , you are already in a world of hurt, and things have probably gone horribly wrong. That crap you see in the movies of sneaking up behind someone etc, and stabbing them is just that - generally crap.

Now, there are instances where a knife in combat may be a bit useful. But those instances are so incredibly rare, as to be insignificant.
