Could this be the drug industry's "Firestone"? Yet another example of he classic irresponsible/corrupt/greedy corp. that tries to cover up its own blunders.
The firestone debacle was really ford's fault b/c their engineers were too lazy to design a smooth riding suspension system so they simply recommended that the users run ~26 psi in their tires =/ At least thats what I have always been told.
After IT enforced monthly changing passwords requiring so many letters with numbers in between, now I write it on a post-it note and stick it on the monitor.
Wow, your IT folks must be really nice! Here when they found out we were browsing porn they got mad and restricted our web access, but your IT people advise you on password safety....thats AWESOME!
The question is... does it run Linux? Hides in the bathroom... realizes it runs Windows and is instantly compromised by his hacked toilet paper dispenser...
Honey!! Bring me the windows disk please, someone hacked the toilet paper dispenser again and I have to reformat before I wipe!!
I've always felt the goal of technology was to become as unintrusive as possible. Making things that "just work" without fiddling or even minimal setup is one way to make technology invisible.
Thats funny, because I buy stuff JUST to fiddle with it most of the time:)
This one isn't that far from 'dumb'. Someone on my list had it the other night and I got a message saying to check out the screen saver they made.....now, if it had been one of maybe 3-4 people on my list I would have clicked without asking questions first, except for the fact that the sent. was capitalized.
Point here is that I am 'tech savvy' but if my buddy who I chat techie stuff with all the time and who also sends me links to funny articles/pictures daily were to send me a link to a jpg I would click it without verifying with him he meant to sent it.
This worm stands to be a real pain in the ass for even intelligent users.
I use Avast as well, its very, very nice. I have been using it for a year now and am yet to get infected with anything since then. It runs quietly in the background, auto updates definitions as well as program versions.
The internet... nope last there
Enterprise Software... nope last there
Spreadsheets, Wordprocessors... nope last there
Multi-tasking operating system... nope last there
Games Console... nope last there
Mobile Phone OS... nope last there
Desktop Search... nope last there
etc etc etc
It is sometimes better to finish last....
Oh wait, this is slashdot, ignore that comment:P
Admit it, you know you want to sit around in the dark with sunglasses on in the middle of winter and listen to your tunes........you'll look smooth remember;)
They are Microsoft, they buy the parts in bulk, I would readily assume they get a slight discount on the parts, and are at least breaking even on the sale of the console.
I surely cannot see the US resigning from the UN and flexing their military might at other membercountries of the UN simply because they dispute who should control the internet.
Since OpenOffice tied itself in so closely with Java, I really don't want to use it. I hate Java, and I shouldnt have to have it running and wasting memory just to type shit up.
"Microsoft is in the position of dominance, and all they need to do is produce something 'good enough.'"
Don't you know in a dominance relationship the submissive has all the control??
Those are all forms of population control implemented by the government.
Let's not get carried away here....you could always buy the camera simply for the free beer and then never hook it up to your computer.

Did we forget we are on slashdot again and any references to females are supposed to be assumed as made up??
What I've always wanted!
Apparently these people have never googled for anything =/
It's Kathy, but thank you very much, are you having a good day, thank you?
Thank you.

Best of all, its FREE (as in Beer)!
Everyone knows Al Gore invented the internet.

Yes, they are doing this in hopes that they will get as many slashdot stories as google does daily.

It also happened days after President Clinton sent troops into Kosovo.... =/
:grabs popcorn:
Then what would I buy?
My e-peen is bigger than youre e-peen!

My 2 cents.
I personally have written a script so that I am constantly downloading Firefox. I am a true /.er
