    I think its time that we started to seperate terms for these things .
    Such an eclectic grouping of diffrent styles all under one name.
    A tape , a Hardrive , a book , a cave wall and a CD all of these things perform the same purpose The storage of information , perhaps im using a bit of hyperbole
    though i think it makes my point well .You cant compare the diary of say a mozilla developer with the reporting of War storys or what Susangirl131 had done to her hair

    I have on often used lokitorrent in the past to get some TV shows that i enjoy(I'm living in Germany )
    and are not available or are dubs only on German TV ,So this doesn't really effect me.
    however i have spoken to many users who were far more worried about the fact that they could be taken to court soon.
    If this was all a hoax then i know a lot of people who will be in equal measures overjoyed and enraged

    Is this really illegal , I am not aware of any case in which someone has been prosecuted for downloading TV shows .
    IANAL , though wouldnt this classify as Potential copyright infringment, as it is yet to be tested in court.
    Does anyone know if this is definantly illegal ?

    As someone who has worked as a web dev in my life ,I whole heartly agree.
    I should perhaps of made myself more clear , when i was working as a web dev , I kept a portfolio of works i had done for personal use(I still do infact) or concept work .Also the profesional sites i had done were , whilst not always being a testimemt to my design skill ,were a testiment to my coding ability

    i really dont think the monopolys and mergers commision would be very happy about this.nintendo is a large company ,
    and have a large stake in the games market , most importantly the dominance of the mobile gameing maket. Now this may change due to the advent of the PSP ,
    though as it stands now Nintendo is neigh on a monopoly in this position.

    Now i don't suggest anything as unethical as those DDOS screen-savers ,
    however if everyone who were to read the message , was perhaps to visit the site then use this contract page ,perhaps we could write a few letters of protest to them(email or normal mail, i wouldn't use your regular email address though) .
    While we are there we could peruse the site extensively (not using MSIE )and make good use of the services, to investigate there site and privacy policys(adblock and firefox may also be an idea) .

    Just a simple bit of advice , but have a close look at the company's portfolio .
    There is no better gauge of skill ,a consistant quality is a fine gaurantee .
    Personaly i would also do some background checks , perhaps contact your peers in the other firms for which the web deisgn/development company has worked for.
    content first , style second (no mystery meat)

    It will start to seem far more valuable as our current oil supplys dwindle over the next 50 to 100 years ( maybe 30 , who really knows).
    It is great that we start now to find alternatives to ease ourselves into more ecological fuel soloutions,Diesel is far cleaner than petrol to my knowlidge and would help a hell of alot in reducing emmisions(kyoto anyone) till we all drive nuclear powerd electric cars(hopefully hover cars) ;).

    If google were to chronical only the american works and american literature , then label it as a world history or a total world collection of some sort, then i would agree he had a point .However google to my knowlidge are not doing this , they are just creating an international online library.We are all free to do this if we want (with non copyright material,well non copyright in our respective nations).
    It is the duty of the national librarys to preserve the literary history of the country , now what is stopping Them from doing this , im sure plenty of companys would be willing to sponsor such an initiative , not to mention state funding.
    If you want the history of your land and the history of its views of the world preserved for the world to enjoy , then stop moaning and start scanning

    Reading that part of it , it seems to me sony are trying to dress this up as a small favour they are doing for the people who bought those units, Ive seen many companys using this aproch .Trying to make people Feel lucky because
    *Company* has said they are kind enough to repair a faulty product they sold you.
    Its a right in most countrys , i would have alot more respect for these companys if they just said "Sorry , we screwed up " and not a free repair program as really it dosnt need to exist .They have sold a product that is not fit for sale and by most civil commerce laws im aware of Repair these or reimburse the customer

    This isnt anything like The death of BSD or the Ipod Killers is it.
    After reading partialy over the artical it apears not ,I was shocked to discover that this claim of the death of tivo actualy has some foundation in reality.
    It would be a shame to see it die , I would own one except for the fact i dont really own a TV and they are not commen in my part of the world.
    If tivo wants to be saved , tivo needs to get its name out there , and it needs to start selling(obvious statment of the year) .If i were to ask my family if they wanted a tivo they would reply to me "Whats a tivo" , I know alot of people who could really use a product of this nature , they just have no idea it exists .
    Adding functionaly and features may help it get some positive marketing , which i belive is really lacking (as much as i dislike marketing , i know its needed). the last i heard of tivo on the news was a few years ago(regular news , not tech sites)

    This is the reason(meaning many simmilar things M$ have done) I currently dont use mono for any production systems ,
    now this isnt totaly related , i do admit but the relationship is too close for comfort
    . i feel on unsteady ground using it , not that it would matter as im in the EU (unless those *Explitives* get their way) ,Though i would hate to think any project i was working on could have the rug pulled so firmly out from underneath it and stop some of my freinds in america being unable to use said project legaly on a linux system .
    Although i must also raise a glass to the mono team on an excelent job.

    .. correct me if im wrong , but isnt bringing anti competitive legislation to stop competition (even if it is run by local gouverments) anti competitive in of itself. Yes reading that makes my head sping too. If the city wants to provide free or cheap broadband to its citizens then what is wrong with that , if the companys wish to compete they should have to offer something which the competition doth not. I would far rather have a state run monopoly on services , as atleast then i do have some say over the board of directors via a vote. Aslong as the gouvernment plays fair there is no reason why they should be disalowed to compete
