will be. As an offset to having to pay for the basic online service, and being
able to enjoy the fundamental Home experience for free, some advertising is
entirely reasonable. Advertising will be kept to palatable levels however. It is
in no-one's interests to cause users to leave Home through excessive

That's funny, since they shipped the hardware manuals with the kit and even gave a "sample" implementation of OpenGL in PSGL. AFAIK the only hardware they didn't give access to was the IOP, hardly the performance-sensitive piece of the kit. Are you sure you're not slinging second-hand, inaccurate information?

My comment was less about this specific article/report, and more about the general reaction you'll see on all the hardcore gaming sites (and even not-so-hardcore ones like this) immediately after *any* report even remotely links gaming to violence in young kids: "I played plenty of violent games, and I turned out fine! Games aren't linked with violence!" (Great, you have done a scientific sample of one.) And of course, the heated insistence that games should be treated as a medium on par with any other, without acknowledging that the same problems of other media influencing young behavior also apply.

Really I wasn't interested in debating whether psychology is science, but since you're so eager to use my post that way, I'm happy to have given you the opportunity to go there. :)

  12. Science is great... on Violence in Video Games Debate Continues to Rage · · Score: 1

...until it proves something you don't want to hear, then suddenly all studies are flawed and all science is bullshit.

It doesn't help to have the people who like games get defensive about the reality that 20 years of research has proven, over and over again. No one is disputing that movies and TV have similar effects--that's been proven, too--and no one is saying that there aren't other ways to become violent as well. (Studies of abused children and children who live in violence-filled neighborhood have shown this.)

Gamers should be coming out to say, "Duh, that's why we have a rating system. That's why we encourage parents to get involved" rather than, "No, our cigarettes don't cause cancer like the rest of them!"

This is from someone who works in the game industry and loves GTA just as much as everyone else does.

It acts as an IMAP client as well... The website's out of date. The Wiki has lots more information:
    http://zoe.omara.ca/

Look, I'm guessing I have the same problem you have with managing mail, and I'm trying to solve it for both of us. My solution doesn't exactly match what you described but I think I hit all the salient requirements:

    * You don't want to change e-mail addresses - so just let Zoe read your mail from your current account
    * You want saved searches server-side so you have them wherever you are - keep bookmarks to the Zoe search, or post a page containing links to them up right next to Zoe
    * Google-like searching - given
    * Relational searches - results have most useful relationships accessible as side links without a special query; lucene search query syntax is supported, and Zoe has extended the fields you can use in that syntax
    * You like to use IMAP - fine, use it for reading your mail as it comes in, but don't blame both your provider and your client author for not teaming up to give you *your* ideal relational search interface! Instead accept that search like you describe is an adjunct function requiring an interface that doesn't look like mail, and be willing to click on a URL rather than a folder icon to see your saved search.

It may be that I'm just less fussy, but I think Zoe's actually a more elegant way to handle your implied need than what you suggest.

If this isn't it, then fuck, you're never going to get everyone else teaming up to write what you want, so it's time for you to go write it/fund it yourself!
