Completely agree... There will always be a RH 7.x box out there, just like an occasional Windows ME PC at your parents house. But the masses will generally move on to the better, and more stable systems. The only way you can guarantee that an OS will be around for a long time, is its stability. In the RH example, things are clear. But look how quickly people kicked ME out of the window. If users are offered a better solution, they will ditch their XP installations just as quick. Look at how popular Mac has gotten in the past few years

  13. Just interviewed with Google this summer on Google Adjusts Hiring Processes · · Score: 2, Interesting

Gents, Just got done interviewing with Google this summer. After the 4 telephone interviews I have had with them, I can say this... Everyone I have spoken to, was extremely knowledgeable, polite, and seemed like a enthusiastic human being... My degree is not from a top private school... Heck, I was working as a sr. linux admin at an ISP while getting through my schooling... if someone has done 60 hrs/wk work + full time university student, would know the commitment that takes. The technical interviews went fabulous, I seemed to be on course, and certainly answered most questions correctly... Throughout the interviews, I kept stressing the fact that I am very capable of learning new tasks in a short amount of time, and given my record, I have proven myself as a worthy individual... Well, the sob story ends with this... The first HR guy calls me back and says... blablabla, not the right person... Great. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, there was little hope in my mind to get hired at google. I have sent several emails back saying... "Thank you for your time... blabalbla... Would you mind sharing with me why you decided not to continue the interview process with me? What areas do I need to study up in? How should I better myself, in order to become eligible for employment at your company?" Pretty sure those are valid questions, but havent heard back ... ever... I think those questions seemed pretty valid...

Enterprise customers will have a statefull firewalls , among other things, to prevent and inspect outgoing/incoming traffic. Most Sysadmins will not use the outgoing connection checking. I think this Vista firewall will only be a nuisance. Thats why they turned off outgoing filtering by default to lower the amount of pissed off users. Besides, how many people still open up emails from "hairy bob" with a .exe attached? What makes you think they will be intelligent about outgoing connection attempts? :) Switch everyone to pine/mutt and stop wasting web space :)

I think you are missing the point. The education system in US is what needs changing. Its not that the CS programs are just so damn good in Europe/Asia, its the fact that the entire education system challenges students on a greater scale. Yes, I have studied and as born in Europe, I can relate. Not calling anyone stupid or dumb. Its unreal, that the wealthiest country in the world has so many retards walking around the streets, with mindless projects at hand.
