I'm pretty sure eMusic watermarks their music too. Can anyone confirm this? I can't say it really bothers me, unless of course my iPod/computer gets stolen.
Sad thing is, all Mac software assumes one button so those extra buttons will be doing pretty much nothing the next few... decades or so...
All the buttons on my mulitbutton logitech mouse work great in Macosx.
I concur, I've only been running it for about 3 years now though. I do have a fear that someday I'll need to rebuild my Debian box and it'll take me forever to get everything back the way I had it.
Considering Microsoft owns Bungie and Halo 2 is the flagship game for xbox, I think it would be smart to make an exception in this case. It wouldn't have to copy the complete DVD, just the maps. The game itself could and should still load from the DVD.
Why is this moded up? Obviously they're not that stupid to access this information over the internet. Don't you think they would be just like every other company and have a private network (intranet). Yeesh!
I signed on in the morning and it was fine all day however I did wonder what was up since not many other people were logged on all day. Why this is a story on./ is beyond me though.
You're just a wee bit paranoid aren't you? Just because one company pulls a dumb stunt like this doesn't mean everyone will. Also the little hardware routers have their advantages over a PC router, they're noise free and draw less power.
I think you can put away your tin foil hat for this one.
Who in their right mind would migrate that much COBOL? If it's currently running on an old mainframe I would think it's a really big risk to migrate existing code onto a new platform, one would be better off leaving it on the mainframe until peices of it could be rewritten in a more modern language. Glad I'm not on any of those projects.
That feature is very nice to have when building smart playlists. Don't discount a feature until you know what it's for. As for BPM I have no idea what it's for:)
I agree winmodems are junk but I suspect 90% of modems sold today are winmodems. I'm sure there are a number of potential linux users that end up reverting since they can't get the modem to work and are too cheap to get another compativble one.
When I upgraded machines last fall I installed linux on the old machine, everything worked great except for the modem. I downloaded the modem module and it wouldn't even compile so I had to end up tinkering with the source to get it to compile and then whenever I accessed the bloody thing it would just lock up the machine! I ended up giving up on it since I don't really need the modem that badly, I just wanted it for callerid (plus I'm too cheap to buy another:) but I can't imagine someone with no linux experience getting these things to work.
Good grief, when you said flamebait you were right. If you can't install a Java VM then you've got a much bigger problem. Last time I installed one it was a matter of downloading and running the setup. I've never have had a problem on Windows or Linux. Now getting it to work with your browser, that I can see people having problems with but I'm sure an application like this wouldn't be run from an applet.
This will be very useful for any client side Java projects that need a browser component. Unfortunately it looks like it needs a lot of work. It's pretty sad when every website I tried didn't even come close to rendering properly. I'll look forward to future releases however.
The main reason we have so many different languages is that you pick the right tool for the job. Obviously there is no one perfect language for every job. So maybe this little test of yours is usefull for some people but I certainly hope people don't use your results to pick a tool for general purpose development. Like you said in one of your posts if you really want performance write everything in assembly.
There are way more important factors to consider when writting code, development time, maintainablity, code reuse, etc. Which is why nobody in their right mind would write an application in assembly anymore.

umm Java generics do go far beyond simply providing type-safe collections.

That's what I've done, though I haven't turned on my Window's PC for 3 weeks since I've gotten my mini. It's nice having a silent room.

Why don't they put the hard drive to use and copy the maps to disk? This would also have the advantage of faster startup times.
well really JDK 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 were Java 2, and now JDK 1.5 is Java 5, you gotta love marketting.

The other person calls it in the air, that way the tosser can't favor the odds and the caller doesn't see which side it started on.
Ha, hacking away to break an encryption scheme is not exactly what I would call "having a life".
I wonder if Jobs will say anything about this in tomorrows Macworld Keynote. I kind of doubt it.
it would be easier to just say "when hell freezes over"
My default install of SpamAssassin only rated it at 2 so I doubt you're right.

last time I checked my phone didn't have 26 buttons to handle the alphabet.
I'm sure 3/4 of a billion should easily cover development expenses.

I agree this would be handy especially for traffic reports.
