    What happens when someone uses the wrong block in the right spot by accident? Giving the tools to people that aren't able to understand the possible side effects could be dangerous. Not everyone has a containment level 3 facility in their basement.

    Could someone explain why FPS games are so popular?

    I bought Half-Life 2 and played it for about 2 hours, I just couldn't get into it. I'm not saying they're not good games, I just prefer RTS type games.

    I played Total Annihilation right up until I bought Supreme Commander a couple months ago.

    What if you don't want to invest anything? Even the cheapest of PCIe video cards have 256MB or more and will do 400MB/S plus. 90% of the time that memory isn't being used.

    Other companies have already been working on using standard AMD servers for reconfigurable computing. Using a CPU socket is a step forward but this has been available for years using FPGAs on PCI cards.

    Easy access to guns makes it easier for homicidal people to do the job. Do you think the government wants people to have easy access to tools for counterfeiting? Why should they make the murderers job easy?

    Sure, maybe you can't legally own a handgun in DC but I bet with a couple of Benjamins in your pocket you can get one in about 10 minutes.

Are you saying european countries that allow sexual content on TV but ban violent video games don't have a religious population? If there is free speech in the US then why do networks get fined when they show something Jesse Jackson objects to?

    It's the instructor's fault for not providing a lesson or two on what happens when you press run. Keep in mind that not all programming environments make use of a compiler and linker. Why give an assignment that can only be completed by making use of the preprocessor, compiler, and linker? I'd also expect a fourth year student to understand differences between static and dynamic linking, late and early binding, stack/heap allocation, how to use an assembler, etc. I'm all for using an IDE. My productivity is much higher when I have intellisense and integrated help. I don't know anyone that has the entire .Net framework memorized and doing so would be a waste of time. By the time one framework is memorized a new one comes along and you're back to square one.

    VB is not a good first language, or a second. If you learn something like Java or C# at least your code (and skills) will be portable to other non-MS worlds. C# and Java are both easy to learn; it's the libraries that require vast load of grey matter.
