    I have to wonder what's wrong if you can't keep a Windows laptop up more than a week. You've either got some bad hardware, or you've done SOMETHING to make it unstable.

    I don't like Vista, but my laptop is happy with it. I don't have problems with anything, everything works. I can output thru HDMI, or S-Video, or the VGA port, or the Component out, and switch back to the internal monitor. It's been going for multiple weeks now without any issues.

    My uncle's Windows 2003 server hasn't been restarted or even powered down in almost three straight years, I built that machine the right way.

    In all honesty, I love the multiple minutes it takes to bring up windows now. Instant on would be a detriment.

    QUIT TRYING TO RUN WINDOWS ON A 386, TOOL. Twelve seconds flat from power-on to Crysis-ready on my XP machine.

    Run your own damned mail server if it's THAT IMPORTANT. Seriously, it's not hard to set one up, and you've obviously got the money to do it.

    Once again, it's a case of rich people with more money than brains having the problems. Nothing important here, nothing of value lost.

    No, your ear drums are not a nerve. They're a tympanic membrane. Where you lose your hearing is from the loss and the degradation of the three inner ear bones caused by intense sound pressure that the tympanic membrane transmits, either as a result of standing next to loud speakers or having a set of earbuds crammed almost up against your ear drum.
    This will also affect your balance, as the cilia in your cochlea break from this, and so do the tiny sodium/calcium deposits in your cochlea that act as balance weights.

    Probably because I run my own SMTP server with all needed storage/backup/anti-virus/anti-spam solutions already in the same box.

    There are many other ways to form EMPs. The problem is making them powerful enough. A shorted out magnetotron in a microwave generates enough EM to screw up any nearby electronics (blew out my microwave, killed my computer, TV, router, and stereo. Everything else in other rooms were fine, just the kitchen and living room were affected, and they're on separate circuits.)

    Then don't bother trying to get repairs under warranty, return the thing as "DEFECTIVE" and demand a new one under warranty, and say you'll take them to court if they do not comply within two weeks.

    Actually, the techs find the problem, replace the part, the engineers have to go over all the failed parts to figure out what's causing the failure.

    For instance, the hinges on the DV9000 HP laptops were defective. The techs replaced it, made note of it, engineers went over notes techs made, decided to do a recall. The techs do most of the grunt work and are usually the first to find and report recurring problems. (We do have internal email in these depots, so techs can send in observations to the engineering staff.)

    Hmm, let's see, while the PS3 allows for mouse and keyboard, devs don't develop for that capability.

    Oh, both online services SUCK. There's another reason (I own both PS3 and X360.) Having to pay for what PC users have done for free is bullshit.

    Hmm, what else can I bring out as a console online user? Moronic children talking trash incessantly, so much that game sounds are drowned out. What else? Oh, unreliable server downtimes thanks to XBOX Live. The fact we have to route through another server before we connect

    Seriously, look at the console market for a second - they RELY UPON YOU BEING A SLAVE TO THEM.

    PCs don't have this problem, for the most part (WoW, EQ, I'm looking at you for exceptions.)

    What's the point? I can play for FREE on a PC most of the games available on consoles, at least online, without needing to pay a monthly fee after PAYING FOR THE DAMNED GAME TO BEGIN WITH.

    Seeriously, it's not that hard to collect a database of student emails (if they're not using your university email, that is,) and build your own SMTP server.

    Integration with calendars, etc. is something I don't consider important. That's why colleges give you a day planner with each semester (at least University of Redlands does this.)

    Just build your own SMTP server, use Linux. I know almost jack about this subject but I've made a simple mail server that can support hundreds of thousands of email accounts using basic FOSS tools already out there. Many even have things that will give you the added functionality you want with all the open APIs today.

    To help out with this opinion, drive the I-10 from CA to TX. You will be forced over into a border patrol station at some point, and the only thing they do is look at you and wave you through. They only stop you if you're a van without windows or whatnot. They can only give you a cursory glance, and unless you've got something moving under blankets or a burning roach in the ashtray, they're not going to do a thing to you because they legally can't.

    While that may work in the short term, I'd prefer something more pressing to stop them from ever repeating such incidences. Perhaps actually being put under civilian arrest, then sued individually into oblivion might be the better deterrent.
