The cheap teenyboppers will buy the cheap low-end locked-down crippled phones, while the *real* power users like me will always buy a factory unlocked phone so i can do what I like without jumping through the operator's hoops. I have no time for over-priced content services integrated with my phone so the operator can extract "more revenue per customer". I want to send emails, download a few files, ssh into my machine with it, maybe send a few pictures. I couldnt care less about their $5 a pop low-quality big brother updates. I dont want to buy a new phone when I go abroad or pay there ridiculous roaming charges. I want a phone that is truly mine, not something that is designed from the ground up to scam me.
of course not. im betting these are just ordinary pressed dvd's. what do you think? microsoft inventing a biodegradable disc whose data layer is destroyed as soon as the laser passes it? i dont think so. microsoft knows nothing about discs, and they will never know anything about them. they barely know how to get the data on to it, never mind making the disc itself
in some regards its a good thing that ballmer is behaving like an idiot. it will lead to bad decisions. and thats good for linux. Why for example do they need to make a new IE and not just bundle a modified firefox with vista? because ballmer thinks open source is the devil. therefore microsoft must now throw more money at reinventing the wheel. i do find it very suspicious that microsoft offers its product really cheap as soon as a customer mentions the word "linux"
America is a country that is only interested in maintaing its own power. it should be more democratic, like based on how much inet infrastructure the country has. I dont trust america. soon the only traffic to be let into america from the outside will be drm authentication requests and credit card details
agreed, i bought my nokia 9500 unlocked, cost 422 on ebay but well worth it, the contracts in some countries even cost more than that. I have no time for jumping through operator's hoops so they can suck the most money out of me. When I go to England I shove in a different sim card, when I go to holland I shove in a different one. The phone might be cheap, but if the network starts sucking, or you go abroad you will be sorry. of course the problem starts when phone manufacturers start teaming up with providers to offer exclusive phones that you cant buy unlocked.
i dont think nokia and other manufacturers are going to stop making sim-free unlocked phones anytime soon. there will always be a market for people who just want to buy a loose phone for whatever reason. some people need to transfer data to their phone and run specific apps for their business or whatever its not like every single person who downloads stuff to their phone is using it for yuppy games and ringtones, its just like when nokia start charging for their SDK's they put huge numbers of people off developing applications for their phones, the same with RIM - they rquire the developer pays a $100 license to use certain API's, and there are not too many blackberry apps around today are there? if you cripple a phone its gonna put people off from buying them, and writing con-end for them
All 14 year old girls use the internet for is MSN:( and looking up stupid pointless yuppy websites, maybe celebrity gossip and such. We should be thankful they are still using p2p, in a few years they will be suckered in by Microsoft DRM music stores.
1. Hey Bob you wan another beer? did you get any action from yer wife lately? are we going hiking & camping nex weekend or just watching baseball in teh basement?
2. Omg I have to help this great country's wonderful corporations or else my wonderful company will go to shit and I will be a disgrace to the worlds greatest country.
IMHO kazaa is a liability anyway, its only real purpose is to be a honeypot for the RIAA to sue people and make an example of, and more to give the RIAA an excuse to peddle DRM. If all these big "illegal" networks were done away with the industry has no excuse for DRM, nor would they "lose" any money from it being pirated. DRM costs them money, I doubt they will continue to invest in it just to stop people making copies for their friends. There are a large number of people who use these networks instead of buying music. If all these networks were gone we could have one centralised subscription based drm-free p2p network and we would all be happy.
steal?? no way. they will probably fry you alive on their stupid electric chair for that. Nonexistant virtual goods such as DRM'd songs already have a god-like status and a 20-year prison sentence if you steal them, so I wouldnt like to think what would happen if you stole an actual tangible object
I'm surprised there is no forced browser UID yet that cannot be removed and no permanent undeletable cookies. I'm also quite surprised there is no DRM that prevents you from blocking ads in browsers as well as other things like stopping you from extracting pictures from websites. If porn was permanently bound to its ads then it would probably make a lot more money.
100mbits and you still cant use skype without a delay, cant play any online games or anything. Looks like the sat's sole purpose is shoving rich DRM-infested content down the residents of rural japan. I wonder what upstream bandwidth is? I guess it wont exceed a megabit because of their TDMA system
How could borg-bill possibly not want implants? I waited so long for my brain-implanted WMA-DRM player, and to be honest what good is a brain without DRM? people can freely spread copyrighted material through word-of-mouth and public performance, implants could possibly stop this madness but bill has chosen not to? i expect share prices of MSFT to drop now, and also a few RIAA vs Microsoft lawsuits. The recording industry is losing so much money because there is nothing preventing you from listening to pirated material and then distributing (singing) it yourself
i dont get what this is all about as i am too tired to read more of it. but i have a feeling it isnt good. at all.
more OSS Geeks vs. The industry i guess

I wouldnt like to be paying the credit card bill after a $digital-locker upgrade

if Microsuck include this with vista wont that be abuse of dominance? ohh i forgot they just gotta pay a hand full of people $3000 to be above the law
Lmao i wonder who wrote that. I thought i was the only one who noticed
Why not microsoft, since it unfortunately owns the main x86 OS at the moment.
*sits back and watches the worms aimlessly fly into my invincible iBook*
I thought it was year of the Rooster

My nokia HDW-2 works fine with skype, on linux :)
