Great example. I had a genetics class, a chemistry series, a biology series, etc. They were NOT a single class. To me that makes the difference. My school operated on 10 week quarters, and trying to throw genetics, chemistry and physiology in a single class is not a smart idea.
That explains why so many kids drop out of CS. I was greatly interested in the subject, but if my CS101 class had tried to throw all that at me and expect me to really grok it all in a single class, I would have been looking for a different major/school.
Meebo does have an option to auto log in to remove one of your concerns. How it pops up incoming messages over the screen is far superior to AIMs handling of them as well.
In my experience, the key to scaling RoR application is adequate power. Trying to deploy something on a shared host like many beginners would like to do (and is easy in PHP) results in extremely high page load times. If you have a dedicated DB server, speeds increase tenfold. The current best-practice scaling method now (I believe) is the mongrel_rails cluster. I have 2 sites running with 5 servers each and they run well. I could not have said the same a year ago, however, so its important to realize everything about Ruby on Rails is changing and that what you heard a year ago may or most likely may not apply today.
IAARoRP and I was amazed how difficult it was on both shared environments (in my experience Dreamhost, and they even support it!) as well as private servers to just get your app up and running the first time. Sure, once you figure out how to do it on a system once, you can repeat it many times, but it took hours of my time and my hosts time to set up a rather basic RoR app using a mongrel_rails cluster. Once up, however, speed is good and I go back to loving Ruby on Rails. I feel this is just a problem of immaturity. The available servers for RoR have increased dramatically over just the last year. If you ever are using RoR and have any problems, its almost certain the nice guys over at #rubyonrails on freenode.net can help you out/fix your problem.
But should the cost of that discovery be on the side of the prosecution, or should the accused (presumed innocent of course) have to change their business model to accommodate for it?
...but Post-Its ARE permanent storage, so the analogy does not fit. It's more like trying to subpoena the log of what you typed into your calculator when you were doing the accounting math.
The main difference being Post-Its are something you can easily bring it to court, and throwing them away is the same as throwing any other paper document away, where logs from a calculator are either non-existent or very cumbersome to get, such as RAM logs.
I have one of these and its a great mouse but buyer beware there is no GAIM support for the IM notifications. When you get an email in Outlook the blue button starts to light up and pulse breifly before going solid and it turns out looking classy and non obtrusive. I love the mouse!
As a stupidly fast teenage driver, I agree with this. Cars that either arent paying enough attention to get out of the way and those that dont get out of the way are the ones truly causing problems. It has been proven that while speed may cause more deaths, it is the differential of speed caused by slower drivers causing us real issues.
You cannot be serious. Wouldnt a vibrating chair or ANY OF A MILLION THINGS UNDER $13,000 do the trick just as well as obviously the sound isnt a factor.
It seems to me that SSN would be of moot importance if you have everything else. Especially for lower age victims where "Im sorry sir, i dont know my social security number" might be a valid answer..

Blogs have replaced 'personal home pages' (PHP anybody???)
Just so no one gets confused, PHP the language has NOTHING to do with 'personal home pages', whatever those are.
Minor injury... sure.
But minor casualty????

Clearly, the solution is to mass mail all students at the university for support.

Am I missing something? My Gmail account has an address book, which I recently exported to two different formats.
No "amateurs" tag???

Actually, I believe [esc]:x will jump ahead x lines from the current, however still very useful.
In February 2006 but no longer.

Also, you left out the part of that proof that you have to assume God would WANT to stop evil if it did exist.

FYI, if you wanted to try it out, the site requires IE6.

But what do I know, IANAL.
