I did - they messed each other up, partly due to extension conflicts, partly due to configuration conflicts that I didn't fix. (Yes, I could have fixed things, I didn't bother. It's not a real complaint, I'm just answering the query.)
On the other hand, I have had up to four versions of Opera running (testing sites in various versions, looking at betas, etc.) without conflicts or related problems.
He was on one of my favourite shows "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" twice, playing basically the same character (a presidential advisor) both times. I had hoped that it would be a recurring role, but the show shifted focus.
However, Captain Montgomery Scott was my favourite character in Star Trek.
I'd like to join my voice to the many, giving James' family and friends my best wishes and condolences in their time of loss.

shouldn't sites use the user-agent string as a minimum value to check for?
Anything like this which is pretty much under the control of the user (like the "referer" string) should not be taken seriously. With a good browser (yes, I mean Opera, but also the Mozilla group with the appropriate extensions - or wget) you can set the browser to lie for you, or a filtering proxy like Proxomitron or Privoxy can do the job for you. Most people/browsers don't lie, but enough do.
If my world view is incorrect, I'll have to start designing for "NutScrape 9.x" running under CP/M, or my favourite UA string "Bond, James Bond (version 0.07)".
Hey don't look at me - I support the any browser in my web pages.
I agree that this is just not on. You're turning away people that are likely not technically literate enough to switch. (Otherwise they would have, yeah?;-) It's just wrong.
This is just a question about this DRM stuff... I am not familiar with US law.
As far as I read this, he read content that he legally owned. He did use a different piece of software than the "correct" s/w, but that required him to own a copy of the correct software. He did not redistribute it.
Is this really a violation?
It's certainly a poor advertisement for MicroSoft. Apparently security isn't their only weakness.;-)

Seeing that the attack is attributed to a spammer, it is likely that the warning from spread firefox will not be the only email that registered users might be getting from this. (Yes, I saw "they didn't get any personal data" on the page. But are you certain of this?)
Tangentially, my copy of FF 1.04 still hasn't realised that there is an upgrade, and even more worrisome, can't find one when I tell it to go looking. Seeing that I don't use it as a primary browser, I'm not too concerned for my installation. (Also, I've already downloaded the 1.05 release thru Opera, I'm just waiting to see if 1.04 wakes up before I install the update.) If this is a widespread problem, this could cause problems down the road.
If I had mod points, I would be using them to mod up the "grand-post". However, we have to remember that this is "news for nerds", and nerds don't have a good reputation for staying on point, do we?
It does rather make you lose "faith" in/. as a forum which can take sci/tech topics seriously, other than some computer related themes, if you had that "faith" at the start.
Well, how about Viola? It was the first X11 based browser I am aware of. Of course, there was Cello in the PC world.
There were as well text browsers - the first of which displayed the text of the web site with numbers for the links. You'd type in the number of the link you wanted to visit. It was a far cry from today's "links" browser.
Netscape did bring the web, and thereby the internet, to the "masses" - people who weren't completely involved in the computer world before - and therefore should be recognised. I suppose, grudgingly, that soemwhere down the road MS IE should also be recognised for bringing the unwashed masses on board too.
Not only is the throbber button grey on the FF I've got, I can't even get FF 1.04 to acknowledge that there is an update during an explicit check. Quote:

Please note that the article doesn't say which direction those days were from said birthday. It could as easily been after his birthday as before. As well, this is a quote from a Sophos spokesdroid and I'd say he's not entirely objective in this.
Thinking hard, I vaguely recall reading this on Opera some time ago (over 3 years ago). I do not recall if it was official, an unofficial reply by someone inside Opera on a forum or just speculation by a user, like me. I cannot say this was an official pronouncement, just my interpretation of "something" I read.
I hadn't heard of these things before. I don't agree that it was a disgruntled Christian that ripped it off - it was an envious Linus user (well, likely one of the Christian faith, in that area of the world) - those fishes look kool.
Same for the Darwin "fish"... when I first saw one, I thought it was unusual as the car sported a most unreligious bumper sticker. When I figured out what it was, I laughed and figured "I gotta get me one."
All definitions of body mass index I have seen are BMI equals mass (in kg) over (height (in m) squared). So technically, I agree here;-)
A person's BMI can go down while he gain weight
Not unless he also increases in height. (Or is in a higher gravity field, since mass is the key element here.;-) There are other measures to look at for body fat/overweight/so on. BMI is a fairly simplistic measure.
The real topic of this post: My take on this study was that people are so stressed from spam that they stop eating and lose weight.
My apologies to the original poster, if this seems somewhat insensitive. Underweight is a health problem. See last month's SciAm as an example.

When was the last release of MS IE?
There does appear to be a speed difference.
She is. The last I heard she was at UBC. Good on her for the move.
But yes, I would use a filtering proxy to munge the http headers. I agree that Opera's support for this is lacking.
Cute post, thanks for the laugh.

I agree with one of the commenters who noted that the most secure browser wasn't mentioned. (Well, okay this one is mentioned and it has a better history than the competition.)
I am constantly amazed by how small the Opera distribution is.
Sun used to market a DECnet implementation (SunLink/DNI). Don't know if they still do, but they could have given you the option for another platform.
Yep, you can't find many people working for DEC any more ... shame about that.
Yeah, we covered that one up pretty well.
