It seems like they haven't: https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/FAQ#When_will_Btrfs_have_a_fsck_like_tool

Hopefully they know something about it being released soon since making the decision to use it.

Kopete webcam support is nothing new

But it's a new thing it's included as standard - I have read about versions of Kopete that should work with webcams before, just never the "official" branch. (You have to love OSS sometimes).

www.mercury.to the java based messenger (admittadly for MSN only)

Hm, I just read on their page that they will start supporting Jabber as well... still, I like using Kopete, so it's very unlikely I will change to another IM, unless they start getting broken protocols so chatting becomes impossible with users on MSN. But hey, sometimes it does break for some days after "upgrades" by Microsoft, so I might give this Mercury a try sometime :-)

  3. Webcam - yes! on KDE 3.5 Released · · Score: 5, Interesting

The missing ability to use a webcam easily under KDE, is actually an argument for some people I know to stick with Windows. So this is great news - now I might convince them into actually trying this "Linux-thing", so I can stop supporting their infected Windows XP Home machines (yes, then I would have to support them with Linux, but with a little help from CrossOver they can keep using most of the software they are dependant upon).

I haven't got a webcam myself at the moment, so I have no idea how it works in Kopete. If you have tested it, and can recommend a webcam that is working nicely under Linux, I would like to hear about it. Are there webcams out for Linux that actually support face-tracking?

If you install something like Kubuntu (my personal favourite distro of the time) and make sure you are using a kernel that is compatible with the laptop, then it would be worth a try. The reason for why I think Kubuntu could be a good choice, is that it has a pretty good support for different hardware out of the box.

And I would probably try with the "386" version of the kernel first (unless you have some CPU that isn't x86 of course). Afterwards change to a more optimized kernel for your system.

In a stationary I have tried replacing the motherboard and CPU, and my distro of the time booted up fine without any problems - detected all hardware changes during bootup. Pretty sweet - I have yet to see this on a Windows machine :-)

Thank you for making me laugh - and then it made me a bit sad, that it's actually true and not funny...

Oh well, maybe I'm a victim of anti-Bush propaganda, living here in Europe - I almost hope that, since the thought of a retard with as much power as the US President is scary.

Doing manual labour can be very rewarding actually - normally I'm working with IT in some way or the other, but being a self proclaimed handyman, I think the job satisfaction of manual labour can be very high and sometimes more easily achieved than with more "mental" labour.

So yes, I agree that there's no reason to try and remove all jobs involving manual labour. What should the majority of "lesser gifted" persons do if they can't get jobs? Post to ./ like the rest of us?

I think it could work without [a keypad]

Well, personally I use my mobile primarily for sms messages, so I might miss a keypad. Then again, if they can figure out a smarter way to type in messages, I wouldn't actually need the keypad anymore.

It's my impression that sms is the main reason for the majority of users here to actually have a mobile. "Here" as in "Not USA, but a lot of places I have otherwise visited". I have never been in USA, so I don't know how it is there.

Even my grandmother, who is in her seventies, know how to use sms messages. So it's not just a teen-thing btw. Yes, I think my grandmother is pretty cool :-)

Orkut is actually quite popular, at least in one country: Brazil.

I'm from Denmark, and looking at your name and webpage, I guess you are Danish too. No, I would probably never have started using Orkut if I wasn't in Brazil, but over here it's actually usefull!

On a sidenote, Orkut can be a pain to use, since it pretty unstable a lot of the time. Bad server, no donut for you.
