Pursuing a giant national phallic symbol is not what the US should be spending its resources on.
I'm here to inform you that your geek card is being revoked. The US does need a giant national phallic symbol. We need to fully fund the space program to get off this rock before something catastrophic happens and destroys it. And is there really anything more phallic than a Saturn V rocket?
I don't think we are even close to the height of the information era. To many people are trying to keep their information private, there is no freedom of information. Once the information is free and people accept that it is free, then we will be at the height of the information era.
The other option is that we passed the height back when Napster peeked and ever since we've been in a decline.
"Unobtainium" may have been valuable, but the technology on the planet was actually immortality. At the end of the movie then end up transferring the mind of the soldier to the body of an Avatar. The humans have the technology to create avatars the indigenous people have the technology to to a permanent transfer between the two. Right there you have everything you need to make people immortal. I'm pretty sure that would be worth more than "unobtainium".
Also, why couldn't they just mine the stuff in small mine shafts without destroying the native flora and fauna? Why is it assumed they must strip mine?
I'm sorry there are still people in the world, and even the UK who don't have internet. Elderly in nursing homes come to mind.
What about large purchases? I use my debit card for all small transactions, however when I paid the HVAC contractor I wrote a check. When I bought my car, I wrote a check. When I bought my house I wrote a check. For everything else I use electronic transaction, but there are lots of cases that a check is the best/only option.
The double negative was created by mathematicians. It should be easy. A double negative is positive. A triple negative is negative and so forth.
-1*-1 = 1
-1*-1*-1= -1
The ramifications of an Apple loss would have been disastrous to copyright in general as well as Open Source. It would mean that anyone could take someone else's work, modify it and sell it as their own without regard to copyrights. If I've hated how The DaVinci Code ended, I could republish it with Ewoks and JarJar Blinks. It would mean nothing would stop MS from taking Ubuntu, embracing and extending it with proprietary locks that worked only with Windows, and releasing as MS Ubuntu.
Bill has made 52 billion dollars. Microsoft could build the product and sell contracted support to just businesses and still make billions of dollars. They could then give away the OS for free for home users and still make money on support.
I too write code every day for a living and it pays my bills as well; however I make my money supporting a business that bought the code someone like you wrote. It just needs daily maintenance to meet changing business needs. There is no shortage of work for programmers and developers on the support side of products. If you develop a product someone is going to need support for it. As long as there is a business that sells a tangible good or service they will need software support from developers like yourself. We don't need copyright to protect our ability to earn money from software. You can make 6 figures supporting free software in business.
I don't understand why this is an issue. Writing code can be a service. It is for me. I work for a large company and I write code everyday. I get a weekly paycheck to maintain existing code and to constantly adjust it to business needs. I don't care who reuses my code since I've already been paid for it. I really don't understand why people think they are entitled to payments till the end of time for work they've already been paid for. You wrote it, you got paid for it. Done. It doesn't matter what happens to it after that. The only thing that would be nice is credit for the work so that way you can make future earnings and get credit for the work you've done.
There was a really scary show on Animal Planet the other day showing how squid were having an population boom and were spreading up the coast of California. Unlike sharks which for the most part ignore people, the squid actively attacked people.
even though only one of the top 25 subprime lenders was subject to the regulations in question
You mean Fannie Mae, the largest and hardest hit of all the subprime lenders who has about 40% market share and is subsidized by the government?
Here is a citation on the size of Fannie Mae: citation 1
Distribution of Bailout funds, Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac are second only to AIG: citation 2
So no they aren't just pulling that shit out of thin air. You could also look at government policies for the last 80 years in which the government is trying to get every American to own a home.
I even checked it with a google search before I posted it to make sure I spelled it correctly. Apparently a lot of people spell it wrong. I figured it out when I was reading something else later and noticed it was spelled with an le. Braille.
The image results for "Brail" are better than when searching for "Braille". The Brail one has Braille porn. Its awesome.
I've got four kids and I've taught them that there is not such things as bad words. Words are a tool of language; its how you use them that matters. There is nothing wrong with the word bitch, especially when used in the proper context. Our genitalia have proper anatomically correct terms, penis and vagina. There is a proper place to use words, you don't talk about penises and vagina in proper company or in public places, the words are not bad, but it is rude because it might offend or embarrass others. The idea that a word is naughty or bad is just as wrong as saying that sex is naughty or bad. None of us would be here without sex, including test-tube babies since at some point in history their grandparents or great-grandparents weren't test tube babies.
Censorship of thoughts and language of any kind is a bad thing. If you censor a word or call it bad, it will just be replaced by an innuendo or another innocent word will acquire its meaning. Language is like the internet, it too views censorship as damage and routes around it.
Running an OS from a ROM prevents all virus attacks (except having the ROM corrupted when created). When you flash the system it returns to its original state. The system is only corruptible when the original ROM is created and during the current session. When you close the current session whatever malware, viruses, etc were installed during the session are gone for good.
Drugs and alcohol are easy to find treatment for. Try finding a sympathetic ear if your struggling with child pornography, or worse, contemplating molesting a child; but would like to seek help because you know its wrong. There is plenty of help for the victims of abuse, but no help for would be abusers looking for someone to help them stop. All that you will find for those people is a crowd waiting to stone them or put them in jail for life.
I preferred the war on the Taliban and the non-existent WMD in Iraq. I don't like this war being waged on my pocket book. Even though people in Afghanistan and Iraq are dying, I could at least ignore it. This new domestic war makes it very hard to pay the bills.
There is a radio side to the hardware? Don't know when I'd ever have time to use it since I can stream Pandora or other internet radio instead... I guess it might be neat to unlock it for emergencies.

Then the sex scene wouldn't have been as interesting; well maybe more interesting but less arousing.

Am I the only one that was waiting for them to link their hair/usb ports together when they started having sex?
Isn't that called a gym?

What is wrong with republishing a work with a better ending?
Actually grad students pay you to build it. I don't know about you, but I had to pay for my education.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our lawyers will be contacting Konami.

Or the entire freaking country from the Native Americans?
Programming and robotics?
Mentos and a two liter of diet coke.
A box of baking soda and a bottle of vinegar.
A model rocket kit at any hobby store.

I read body language in Brail.

Because Obama is just like Bush, that is why it was modded funny. New boss same as the old boss.
