Thanks to the wonders of Trusted Computing hardware, if you change the code in any way... it may no longer run... it certainly won't be "trusted". It depends on how Microsoft decide to treat hacked versions, because *they* will control the hardware, not you.
Exactly. Already some of the advertisements on DVDs disable your ability to skip past them.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to at least keep it the hell in check. Just look what it's come to: Walmart wages, RIAA suing disabled people for downloading hip-hop music, Windows activation tying your copy to one computer only so they can milk you for every computer you own, trying to charge for lyrics, (what's next, sending people to jail for humming a tune because it could be considered a public broadcasting?)
Well, it seems I failed to remember the old proverb that says, "before you speak, roll your tongue ten times" or something along those lines. Funny thing is I knew about the 4 GB file size limit, and somehow I got it all confused.
Really, rather than an a whole new file system, I'd rather have native support for EXT3.
Yeah, I know about ext2ifs. But I'd really rather install windows on an EXT3 partition, rather than being stuck with NTFS or a FAT32 partition arbitrarily limited to 32 GB. All this makes multibooting a PITA.
(Or they can open up the NTFS spec so I can read/write in linux, but we all know it'll be a cold day in hell before that happens.)
Under NTFS, the maximum size of a partition (volume) is in fact 2 to the 64th power. This is equal to 16 binary exabytes, or 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 bytes. Does that seem large enough for your needs?:^)
But it's easier to pull things out of your ass or mention hear-say facts. Oh, wait, this is Slashdot...
How about we teach people how to actually write and spell to begin with?
How about they goddamn learn those two things themselves? If I can write correctly, as a non-native English speaker, why can't Americans do it?
Oh wait, because the kids go straight to their XBOX after school, and computers correct their spelling for them.
The only chance for us is when the jackals start disagreeing and fighting each other. Like with piracy: *AA may not be happy about it, but ISP's are happy cos people are buying faster connections.
Yes and now we're stuck with the proprietary codecs for lots of Web content.
You mean like that piece of s*** Quicktime? "Oh, you want to save trailers to your computer? Buy Quicktime pro."
Americans think that every move ever made by their government is a slippery slope to 1984.
And you think it's not? Open your goddamn eyes. And it's not only America, but all over the so-called "civilized" world. Who the hell is this ever-tightening leash supposed to protect us from? Politicians are people obsessed with power (just as people with violent tendencies become policemen or military, cos let's face it, if you're a bookworm, odds are you won't go to military school). Not the kind of people I'd trust with having absolute control over me.
All this fear mongering reminds me of the Y2K bug and all the disasters that were expected to happen. Which didn't happen. And if it's so lethal, how come there aren't millions of deaths? How much is the vaccine and how many suckers bought it? Even if it's just 10 dollars a dose, if 50 million people all over the world buy it, that's half a billion dollars in sales over a media scare tactic.
I watched Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula when I was 12 or 13. It's not like I turned into a vampire or a sadistic killer. "Oh my god, I let my kid watch Die Hard and he'll turn into a psycho." Problem is you take things too seriously. It's a goddamn game! It's not real. You know, it's supposed to be fun!
The more you make a big deal out of it, the more it backfires. You want teenage boys to play with Barbie dolls? Of course they want to play Doom. It's male nature.
Whenever I read something about a new restriction coming up in the US or the Western Countries, I'm grateful that I'm living in Eastern Europe, where this mentality has just started rearing its ugly head.
Free my ass. I still have to waste time to compile specific kernel features like ntfs write support, ACPI doesn't work, multimedia keyboards don't work, no ATI or Nvidia drivers unless you pay for the distro (how is that free?). Oh, yeah, it's free as in free speech. So what?
If I want any feature beyond the less than bare minimum I'm getting for free, I have to pay for the distro.

Apparently, smoking also makes you unattractive for mosquitoes. It seems to be confirmed in my case, now that I've stopped smoking.

Clearing your cookies should work. Or do they store them server-side?

No kidding? If it's true, I'd like to see a valid source backing this up. Somehow though, I doubt it.

THIS is insightful?
Whoever says communism is good hasn't had first hand-experience with it.
