Where's the Yankee Group? Where's the fathead Laura DiDio? She's been the official SCO Fan-girl from the start. I guess monkey-boy Ballmer didn't command her to make any comments at this time.
They are being obtuse by ignoring the spirit of the request to support open standards. Microsoft is attempting to win the battle by frustrating users. Proprietary formats have kept them in business for many years -- why change now? However, I remember when they supported dozens of file formats .
Try starting with the metric system first. There's much more to be gained by switching to the metric system than by the further dumbing down of the English language to accommodate a bunch of dolts.
Picking the low-hanging fruit is not being a dick.
Microsoft is at the proverbial crossroads. Their products have stagnated -- there's been no real innovation for the consumer. The company caters to industry, even at the expense of the consumer -- they are at risk of a backlash.
Bill is retiring, and Ballmer is viewed by many to be a goofball.
Google is simply exploiting a competitor's weakness.
Windows Vista had better be spectacular or Microsoft will be the next IBM. No company can stay at the top forever.
Laura DiDio, a senior industry analyst of the Yankee Group who tracks SCO, says Wells's latest ruling isn't a surprise.
Laura is such a two-faced windbag! She spends months berating Linux and IBM -- hell, she's seen the supposed evidence, and now she's doing an about-face so she can proclaim that as an industry analyst, her forcasts are "spot on".
The Yankee Group (and especially Laura) wouldn't know their own asses from a hole in the ground.
Actually, in preparing all of the anti-linux fud, he had to spend considerable time actually using various distributions. He finally came to realize the terrible truth that he, in fact, was the bad-guy, and had to leave.
Martin, if you are ever ready to trash linux again, we at the Yankee Group will welcome you with open arms.

Early in my career (before I become a Microsoft shill), I decided to forego learning SQL as a language and simply rely on MS Access instead.
Isn't it funny how you HATE your phone company, and you HATE your cable company. That attitude seems to be quite common! How did those two industries manage to piss off so many people! (Besides poor customer service, over charging, etc)?
Great idea! I'd love to see it!
Even better: Get your filthy paws off my blackberry, you damned dirty ape!
Even mo better: They finally did it -- they had to screw up my blackberry service. Ahhh damn you! Damn you all to hell! (pounds surf with fist)
.
I pretty much agree with your statement, except that the focus of the US gov't at the current moment is helping corporations squeeze every last penny out of their IP. No one wins at this game except the attorneys.
I feel innovation has been stifed. While corporations sit around complaining how much profit they are missing out on (that they would not like get anyway), businesses in China continue to mass produce goods for sale that we seem to enjoy buying.
Screw that! Does he utilize any New York resources? Does he get the right to vote? No taxation without representation? Taxes paid while visiting in New York, or even taxes paid on wages earned while physically in New York are a little more understandable.
If they decide to tax this guy under the auspices that he is drawing an income on NY economy, then they should FULLY TAX all of the Indians who work at call centers for NY companies!
New Orleans was flooded in both of the first two years after being founded by the French. They were caught completely unprepared for the magnitude of the flooding.
The levees that have been built to spare the city from a natural and repeating cycle are actually hurting the ecology of the area. Silt from the Mississippi is supposed to be dumped into the gulf, making up the grassy wetlands. Since this flow has been interrupted, a measurable loss of barrier wetlands has been observed. In fact, many of the once-buried oil and gas pipelines are now above water -- which was never intended.
If our government officials had any wits about them, they'd 1) allow the insurance companies to pay out the total losses, 2) buy the land and return the area to it's natural state (prohibiting further development), and 3) rebuild the port for industrial use only.
Frankly, with the prime of hurricane season just arriving, it wouldn't surprise me if New Orleans took another direct hit. Might be just the thing to bring a reasonable conclusion to this disaster -- finish it off quickly.
I agree with you, in part. No one has a right to live where they choose, if they aren't sharing in their proportional share of risk. Want to live on the beach? Fine...but I would expect the insurance premiums to reflect the risk that, at some point, the area can -- and probably will -- be destroyed by a hurricane.
Hardly the ball-buster everyone is making it out to be.
Yet. The additional requirements will be forthcoming (once the foot is in the door).
Close...the occupant of that address is an ASSHOLE.
No no no...the article was referring to a SINKhole, not a STINKhole.
It won't be long until there's conclusive evidence that the US has never put a man on the moon!

Add a "redact" tool to the existing toolbar!

Shut your pie-hole before I call Steve. He'll throw a chair at you.
Vendor Lock-in. Nothing they've released lately has been for the benefit of the consumer (end-user).

Sounds like a couple of things are going on...
1) you may have finally obtained some kind bud, whereas you may have initially been smoking grass clippings (or equivalent);
2) you need to learn to manage your buzz -- getting rocked out of your mind may be entertaining every once in a while.
Try a more conservative approach -- like having one or two glasses of wine versus swilling a fifth of whiskey.
I wish they'd hack my mortgage company and reduce my principal!
Sounds like they've simply taken a page from Microsoft's playbook.

Our government has deemed weed a tool of the terrorist. Users, therefore, are supporting terror by lighting up.
Plus, the herb I'm able to get makes me fungry as a mofo. Weed is not diet friendly.
