  1. Re:Oooooooohhh... on Apple Switch to Intel Not a Big Loss for IBM · · Score: 1

The loads of people you know acounted for only 1,046,000 Macs as of a recent quarterly earning report from Apple.

Now, ok, admittedly IBMs new "clients" haven't started selling their PowerPC (or Cell) based consoles yet, but look at the lifetime sales figures for consoles...

    • Microsoft Xbox: 20 Million+ (In 5 Years)
    • Sony PS2: 90 Million+ (In 4 Years)
    • Nintendo Gamecude: 19 Million+ (In 4 Years)

And as you know, these numbers are bound to rise as the console (virtually everyone of them powered with an IBM chip) transforms into a media hub for the living room... so who's bitch would IBM be then?

  5. So is this going to be included in 17.99 / month? on Leaked Screenshots Show Netflix Downloads · · Score: 2, Informative

I download movies from Starz Ticket on RealOne all the time. They don't have the latest or the greatest, but at any given time there are over 300 movies (plus all the extras you get on DVDs), and that's more than enough to choose from. A typical (500-600MB) movie takes about 25 minutes to download on my 10Mbps OptimumOnline connection. I play them on my PC, turn off the monitor and switch to the TV out display. Plus I can watch a live Stream of Starz (the channel) with more latest movies that aren't available on demand. I pay only $13 bucks a month for that.

So now, if Blockbuster can make it this simple for me without asking me to shell out more bucks for Tivo service, I'd jump ship... otherwise I'm happy with next day home delivery of DVDs with all those deleted scenes.

Microsoft doesn't care about what is said here on Slashdot about the missing file system or the shinny over-the-top GUI... what it does care about is 90% (minus the pirates) of the world computer users who use it's OS and are HIGHLY likely to buy
(or upgrade to) this new OS, either in retail packaging or as part of a brand-name PC deal.

Apparently now, all internet traffic is going through that and other satellite links... and from what I can tell even the country's biggest ISP Brain.NET (known for it's founders' famous DOS virus of the same name) site is taking forever to load. Obviously, this is bad for the country's outsourcing ambitions, especially with a recent spike in interest in this sector due to rising costs in Bangalore.
