I am highly intelligent, and went to public school (I likely could have used a private school or otherwise if it was anywhere near my parents means). Yes, shenanigans go on there. You don't have to be a part of it though - it really usually is a small group of those out to just break the rules. It's not that crazy, I often befriended such types to keep from getting bulllied (verbally was the worst part, I'm quite capable of the physical but it should really not come to that). It's not the outlaw country you're portraying, though I can see how you would get that from a private school POV.
It's funny to watch private school types melt when presented with real life problems or someone thinking irrationally.
I've been an auto tech for six years and have had this happen exactly on a couple occasions - "It must be in here, the car turns on." Saved me looking all over the shop, but didn't keep me from having to pull the center console to get it out of the emergency brake.
No, Couldn't tell you exactly how they triangulate it, but the cars with fobs are fairly intelligent about whether or not the key is actually IN the car vs. just outside the car.

Some BMWs have places to put them (not required usually unless they fob is really dead), some have nowhere to put them (cupholder looks great), some like Audi have you push the key fob into a slot as the start button, then it ejects back out to a run position until you pull it out. As far as I can tell, it makes little difference if they key leaves the vehicle other than an annoying message. Leave it running and you're home free. I have all sorts of customers walk away with the fob, and it makes no difference except to the fuel they burn inside.
Nailed it - I used to make all sorts of money on random things 12 years ago - As an adult working 60 hour weeks, it just don't happen like that anymore. It happens in all sorts of markets, like used cars. Someone is willing to let it go for less than it's worth, someone else is willing to hold on to/repair it, and someone else is willing to pay more for it just because it's immediately available.
I'm on a FIOS connection in a metropolitan area - I can torrent a movie faster than it takes me to go to the library/redbox/whatever, and it comes ready to play on multiple devices. DRM on physical media has caused me hell on the other hand. They keep shooting themselves in the foot with it.
I think what the GP was getting at was not that it isn't on the market, but more likely that you're going to be strictly presented with VGA if it isn't YOUR projector.

Don't have anything to back this off the top of my head, but you must be right - I can't think of anything I put in my fridge with less specific heat capacity than air.
As a professional auto tech, I'll confirm this. The shop may make some money on the parts if it's an expensive oil change on a luxury vehicle, but your base oil change is really a loss for the company as a whole. The tech makes a few bucks (7-8 in my case, USD), but it's really not worth my time if I have something better to do. This is especially true when you come across customers that you know from the very beginning are there for nothing more than the oil change special.
I spent 1.5 years on campus (kicked out for 1 semester) and two years off campus. I had actually opted for random selection, but ended up with an assigned roommate who didn't really look like he would get along with me. Another guy I was grouped with in orientation found me on Facebook and expressed basically the same concerns. Living together was a better idea than random. We had it changed before ever moving in without incident, and got along great in spite of coming from nearly opposite backgrounds. I got kicked out of school, and was replaced for one semester by another random guy. I hear that was... interesting. The two of us and two girls we had been a close knit group with (dining hall tables usually have 4 seats... you know) got an apartment, and had a great time living together. Everyone pitched in in their own way, and it wasn't a bad place to live. One girl left for the second year of that, but MY previous replacement filled in for her, and it was all good again. He mostly kept to himself anyhow now that he had a room.
Sorry you had a bad experience. Everyone I knew had an easier time than that both on and off campus. Student Services was more than accommodating with any desired room swaps and had waiting lists for people who just wanted out of where they were. Off campus worked pretty well too, I didn't know that many people who hated where they lived.
I have an older Mustang where the shifter rests just perfectly for radio adjustments - keep in mind this is not the norm. I'm an auto tech and have seen it all. The 05 Chevy truck I'm in has steering wheel controls and they work great. It's even better than knowing, you literally don't go anywhere for them. You don't miss features like that until you've had them.
Hey, just wanted to say thanks for chiming in. I have mod points I almost used on you, but thought this might be a little more personal - it's not every day you get a decent informative post on Slashdot you read the entirety of and go... hmm. This sounds like a guy I can probably level with.

Sure, maybe it does indicate something about their personality, but that is neither here nor there. AFAIK this wasn't public knowledge previously, meaning someone went through the effort to find this information and release it against the will of at least one person. Not only is that illegal, but also immoral. It's no one person's place to just find shit about others to smear on the walls. Does that mean cheating/thinking about cheating is okay? Probably not. But stealing this data for a smear campaign is definitely wrong.
Not saying this takes blame off of any of the parties involved, but I think your stance on it is a bit strange.
