On that same note, California Emissions cars are only more efficient in the sense that they produce fewer byproducts because they consume less fuel. This also has the unfortunate side effect of less power and less torque across the board.

No... I don't think they were really blaming Linux. If anything, I'd say they were praising it for having the functionality to be modified to fit their needs. They admitted that the previous configuration they had wasn't ideal, and they fixed it. I think the important part here is that they used Linux to fix it, they continue to use Linux, they documented the fix, and now they are giving back to the OSS community with information on how they did it.

Between my gaming PC, my lappy, and my roomie's lappy, it just gets warmmmmmmmm. There's also a small fridge and TV, but the fridge seems to barely ever be on and the TV is just about never on. It is now about 20 degrees outside and a window is wide open. Feels good now.

One often forgotten thing for fuel consumption is tire pressure, and width aswell. The rolling drag is way higher with wider tires, and with lower pressures.

This is very true. I drive a Mustang (2dr hatchback sportscar) and my goals with the car lie somewhere between performance oriented and fuel efficiency. As such, my tires are up to twice as wide (and therefore flatter with a larger contact patch) as those on your average vehicle. Did it affect my fuel economy? Not particularly. I drive the car nicely on the street 95% of the time anyway and I didn't see a drop at all.

I suppose I just wanted to point out that the flatter tires are sometimes a choice that we knowingly make, for better or worse. Some people aren't informed enough to know the difference, but I'm well aware of my choice. I do, however, maintain my car very well and keep the tires inflated correctly. Possibly that is the cause for my consistent fuel economy.

I am also their IT guy.

Myself and one other person do all of the CAD work. I find that oftentimes, our hardware feels underpowered. I've wondered why that is. As such, my employer ENCOURAGES me to dig deep and see what I can do to help. I'm asked to try out new ideas and see if they work well. That applies to every portion of my job, including out in the shop.

It has been amazing working in an environment where testing is allowed and encouraged. It creates a friendlier workplace where you can have fun and really think outside the box. To put it quite plainly, I feel horrible for anyone who works somewhere that they don't get to try out new ideas.
