...the PSP version that was announced.

It doesnt make any sense considering the DS is perfectly suited for this kind of game, but apparently it doesnt make sense that there is a PS2 sequel either, so there are obviously a lot of nonsensical ideas being put to action over at Namco.

How about some of these filesharing companies get together, buy an island, and create their own nation?

Im sure that countries like China wouldnt care about US sanctions against this new country, so if secured near the mainland it would be easy to get supplies and keep things running smoothly.

Not to say that filesharing is shady business, but I am surprised that this sort of thing hasnt happened already by some criminal organizations or large-scale pirating rings. Perhaps there is an obvious answer to that...

Dont worry, in a few years Microsoft and Sony will start calling them "interactive media". The only people who will call them games any more will be Nintendo.

I have just as much fun playing Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana (2d sprites) as I do playing MGS3 (fantastic visuals). Granted the graphics of each contribute to the games respectively, but when you boil it down, graphics between the ps1 and ps2 havent added much, and it is looking to be the same way with the ps3 and etc. of course I will be wowed and in awe when playing MGS4, but when it comes down to the wire, i dont give a shit about the graphics, only sneaking past that guard or taking down the latest Metal Gear.

I like to say that I play games, not graphics. Graphics are a plus, but I think we have reached a point that they dont matter so much in the game as they do in the commercial for the game.

I'm trying to not be an ad for Nintendo, but this is one of their big selling points of the Revolution. They think that controllers have become too complicated and imposing to many people, so they wanted to simplify things to the point that they could reach an entirely new audience.

Heh, I find it humourous that this was posted right after the Revolution's controller unveiling.

The entire reason people buy new consoles and always have is that the next generation looks and sounds better and, as much as gameplay matters, sweet explosions and smooth rendering still gets most people excited.

Yes, most people get excited about graphics, but again we are getting a new way to play games, a new experience. I and many others expected this from the Revolution, not that graphics would be its focus.

but how can you decide which one is the best ever without regarding to the nostalgia people have?

I like to think that those who had to grow up with videogames advancing from the NES to the Playstation have more weight on the subject. It is old-hat to spurn the "Playstation is he first console I ever bought" crowd, but I think it is more than reasonable. They started with a certain level of graphics that really havent progressed in over ten years (more polys and bigger textures are not progress). 2d gamers on the other hand, have followed the evolution of games and saw multiple advancements over the years before the ps1. This of course does not apply to everyone, but I know more people who started off with a ps1 that refuse to play "gay" 2d games because they are "boring" and "ugly".

We were there for the whole "gameplay over graphics" thing, because there really couldnt be that much graphics, so all that was left was the gameplay. The gameplay is where the money went to in the devlopment.

Older gamers arent superior, but I think that those with more experience in a certain area know more about it than those who just recently jumped in.

The 6-hit-combo thingie the article mentions seems to be just their tried-and-true "critical hit" system with some extra graphics... The hit combos were in FF1, by the way. I believe one could, with luck and a good weapon, get anywhere between one and six hits. The new shield-guarding ability? They've had an "eva" (evade) stat since FF1 and introduced the shield as the primary blocker in FF6.

And the quarterback field of vision "introduced" in Madden 06 was included in Madden 92. Most studios have been out of ideas for years, so they recycle their old ones as innovative and new to the next generation of gamers.

Try not to be impressed.

Well actually, I was on top-ten teams throughout the life of Starsiege: Tribes and Tribes 2. I know the adrenaline one gets during a close game, and the spent feeling after a good match. I just dont find it to be a real sport. I admit that may be a totally illogical thing to say, especially since I cannot back it up with more than "I think it is stupid", but I think it is like Fear Factor. I am certain that these types of players will become common with blu-ray and none of us will have a problem with it after so long.

Also to throw out there, as a videophile I have absolutely no interest in the PS3. A first-gen sony product that moonlights as a dvd player? Seriously, the PS2 and xbox are terrible dvd players (terrible quality, functionality, and even compatibility in some cases). The idea that the PS3 might be a good player is ludicrous.
