Chinese economy is still centrally-controlled. However, it is relatively open along the coastal areas. The FTZ they got set up are fairly free. The government is simply called the communist party. In reality, they behave more along the lines of a dictatorship.
You're so right. I'm in Canada, and even if I'm going 130km/h (~80mph) in the fast lane, if I notice someone coming up behind me at a faster rate, I find the safest place to change lanes and let them go by.
The grandparent's attitude of "I'm morally and lawfully correct" really bother me. There have been plenty of instances where these "law-abiding" types go at 110km/h in the fast lane, causing HUGE lines to form behind them. You can't pass 'em either coz there's too much traffic in the "slow" lane to pass, tho sufficient for someone to move over and stay. You know what, I'm gonna get the ticket, if they catch me, so let me go by.
Whilst it may have region-free games, will all the games actually be available in all markets at the same time? And will online retailers be allowed to ship games over to areas where a certain game hasn't been released yet?
China, and to a lesser extent, India... Although one wonders if the orders they get from those two countries are sufficient to develop hardware comparable to US/wester hardware.
The US helped bring WW2 to a swifter end, but didn't alter the ultimate outcome in any way.
They did alter the outcome, as Europe wasn't overrun by the Soviets. Which is what would've happened had the US not joined. Well, at least most of Western Europe would've been under Soviet control if US hadn't joined...
Yes, the idea of control would be why the Chinese are doing this... And as always, if they try to take away existing freedoms, people will notice and start questioning things... Come to think of it, perhaps this is good for the freedom of Chinese people in the long-term?
The price of a new PC will probably depend on what version of Vista is included... And most people will go into a store thinking of buying that $200 deal they saw in the flyer. It'll be the salesperson's job to upsell the PC/OS combo, just like in automotive or consumer electronics... See how it will make money for everyone? see? see?
Okay, so it'll be a scam...
As for the IT depts of a business, if they upgrade, then they will probably go with the same edition for the entire business... I don't see why you wouldn't...
Oh wow! Colour me impressed.
I got a recent-model Accutron. It's not actually a tuning-fork watch AFAIK. It's a 21-jewel timepiece. What's the difference between mine and the tuning fork things?
Originally, I was going to wear it only for special occasions. I've found that I'm wearing it all the time however! It's water-resistant to 50m and so I wore it on my trip to mexico as well. Sun and surf and everything, and nary a scratch on the face. Though the band I've managed to scratch up a bit.
So who paid for his ski training? He was born here in Canada and trained here. In this case, it was probably not the aussie body that paid his training. Although I'm sure they offered him something he just couldn't refuse just so he'd cross over. Well, you Aussies can just keep him!
Why doesn't he just work 9-5 (or 6 or whatever his hours are). Keep a diary noting what he did when, kind of like lawyers do. If things can't get done, they don't get done. Really simple. If they complain he's not "doing his job" show them the diary. In the meantime, start looking elsewhere.
I had the same problem as you, although never a crash. It was maddeningly slow. I couldn't stand it. That's when I had 512MB of RAM. Went out and bought a 1GB stick a week ago. Now, smooth as silk with that 1.5GB of RAM. Commit charge I notice still goes to 1.2GB tho...
I was miffed at the installation as well, since I have an ATI card. Imagine my frustration when I paid for this game, only to find it wont work, and takes all these stupid steps to even get it working on ATI cards... What a piss-off that was...
You need to use something called moisturizer on your skin, ie all over your body. We're talking arms, legs, chest, tummy and as much of your back as possible. Also condition your hair which helps with the dryness. You can also get hair moisturizers. Or use something like Nizoral or Head and Shoulders as shampoo.

Chair-throwing dude.
At least they didn't make RIM close down shop and burn all the documentation or throw it in the lake or something...

What if a country decided to use different avionics package instead of the Russian one? Say one with a glass cockpit?
Wow. Spot on. A tad on the cynical side. But spot on... Seen the movie Lord of War? Wish I had modpoints.

What do you think of CANDU reactors?

Cheap disposable consumer products are great if you want something cheap. But there is no point in Bang and Olufson.
Bang and Owfulsound stuff can be used as abstract art pieces too! Or conversation starters for example....
So if I write an app that works for win2k, it'll stop working on Vista? There will be dependency problems? :P

Economics major I take it?
Nice breakdown btw :)

So what you're saying is that the /. staff do not read their own front page? Sounds like it...

Can't wait till X gets some of this stuff put in for Pimp my Ride...
This is eerily similar to the Avro Arrow...
If I may ask, where are you located and who is the ISP?? I'm with Rogers, but I don't get 10Mbit....
Does Nazi Germany count as a totalitarian state? They had innovations coming out the wazoo...
