  1. Wasn't a comedy... on New Hitchhiker's Guide Book "Not Very Funny" · · Score: 1

I guess the first book of the 5 part trilogy was meant as a comedy, however the complete 'trilogy' wasn't meant as one in my opinion. Though there are plenty of funny bits in the books, the complete work wasn't really funny (although I do think it was quite good..) , especially with all the characters being dead in the end, earth destroyed etc etc Douglas' style was somewhat like that of Terry Pratchett. Even serious topics can be told using a humorous/sarcastic undertone...

  2. Misleading on XP Users Are Willing To Give Windows 7 a Chance · · Score: 1

70% of the people who used it are considering it. Since, only 22.5% (Somewhere between 20-25% in the graph) of the people actually used it, a mere 15.75% of the people interviewed have used it and are positive. So those '70%' are actually 788 people out of the 5000 people interviewed.... Not really something you can base a forecast on..... In their vista-review, 70% have used vista and of these people, and about 20% are (moderately) positive .... this means 14% used vista and were 'happy' , which is 700 out of the 5000 people. 700 comes awfully near the 788 .... Based on this research I predict that Windows 7 will be just a big a failure as vista is. There are Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics.

    -------------
c.1225, "failure, failure to act," from O.Fr. defaute, from M.L. defalta "a deficiency or failure," from L. dis- "away" + fallere "to be wanting." The financial sense is first recorded 1858; the computing sense is from 1966.
    -------------

How I see it, all the word 'default' means is the state an object is in if you don't mess with it. e.g. the default position of a football is on the centre of the playing field, until one of the players kicks it. They didn't need computer science for that.

I disagree with "you should be able to access all of its content, regardless of your playing skill." . Because, just as you said, you paid for the GAME. Not for a level-viewer. If the game is to difficult for you, than that is too bad, you get what you paid for.

  14. Whining on Google Announces Open Source Repository · · Score: 4, Insightful

People complain that this Google project does not offer the same amount of features/sections as Sourceforge and thus must be worse. How often is it not that half of the sections on Sourceforge are empty (Documents is a nice example)? Resulting in completely confused visitors... Then are those that say it doesn't offer a project page, while most people using sourceforge do not keep their project pages on sourceforge either. As I see it, this Google service offers exactly what I've been looking for recently: a quick and simple method to maintain my small projects online without any application/approval periods.

Actually, they appear to be targeting the 'little' projects; people who merely want a repository for their projects with a small bugtracker. The project pages clearly show only three tabs: 'description', 'issues' and 'source' in contrast to SourceForge where you have a whole jungle of sections.

Did they modify the design of the green model ?? They design at the homepage of olpc shows the screen standing on a standard that can fold nicely into the back, thus enabling it for e-book use. A video showed the laptop to be detached from the screen (usb I guess) .... I serliously wand that model (INCLUDING sling windup option !) However, seeing the pics at the link from slashdot it seems to be very different.
