"This argument goes for most hardware and linux in general, though...." Well personally i've actually had very little trouble with hardware and linux EXCEPT for wlan (prism chipsets to be specific). Did get some limited functionality with ndiswrapper though...
In most cases (here in norway atleast) you usually get a broadband router, which actually makes a firewall for incoming connections. Don't know about other countries though, but atleast in those cases a dsl line would be MORE secure than a dialup/isdn connection... (Yes there are routers for modem/isdn too, but those are less common)
If, of course, ignoring the time , all together. And spacejunk (check out space debris on google). And small particles at high velocities. And the fact that no matter how well you construct something, there will ALWAYS be minor damages here and there... oh and the final point, if you sit on a tank full of high explosive gas, and it explodes, no amount of selfhealing will save you...
Here in norway it is IMPOSSIBLE to get funding for ANY kind of youth activity unless its against drugs, against alcohol, against crime, against eating little puppies, and so on... enough said.
don't worry, when windows vista comes all problems will go away, we'll all be using opensource software in a decade anyway (perhaps BECAUSE opensource software doesn't have these problems, not in the long run atleast)
too specialized? uhm i'd say it's too general, WHAT exactly are you supposed to learn on such a course? managing lots of information isn't very specific...
Since when is upgrading your priveliges a problem in windows? (http://www.google.no/search?q=local+windows+site% 3Afrsirt.com) No wonder everyone runs as admin, there's hardly a difference...

And some people still find it stupid to create more search engines in non-us parts of the world...

ever heard of this new thing called email? :)
tor + wide open wireless networks usually give 99.99% anonymous internet access...
Wow! A war where the U.S was actually attacked before sending troops, too bad it's 20ish wars ago...
good thing we know iddqd!
You're all airaddicts!
Please someone remind me, WHY even bother with symantec software? It's more annoying and takes more resources than most viruses out there...
Why bother with a GPU when you have all those cpu's?
yes but can the same be said about toshiba and ibm?
*cough* 65536 you mean
good thing you're not too proud to listen to younger people :)
oooohhhh creepy :D
sooo... anyone EVER found out what a grue actually was? (this SHOULD be one of the top ten question in classic gaming!)
wow never thought i'd find it on slashdot, i hereby declare this the best idea of the 21st century!

but then again, humans are also part of nature, so how do you know we're not supposed to do just that?
yeah like nuclear power...
my first first post!
"It's almost as if this MSDN interview of an MS executive on future MS technology is somehow MS related."
I didn't watch the interview but even i noticed it was about MS windows vista...
You'd be right if vista was opensource though...
