In your opinion. I loved Voyager, and after giving Enterprise a chance and watching it all through I thought it was pretty good. Star Trek Online is the ONLY MMORPG I'm at all watching these days - WoW was great but I just got tired of it after 6 months or so. That might well happen again with STO but it might be fun for a while. As long as they get Robert Picardo in to provide the voice for the EMH.
Indeed - recently I've been thinking about picking up a 360 after new year but it would only be for exclusives and Assassin's Creed on the PC should keep me happy. However, MS will at least get some money from me as when the game comes out I plan to buy a wired 360 pad to play it on my PC.
No, adults who buy a Nintendo console shouldn't be treated like kids. However, I'll admit that I can't think of a quick way to have a happy medium. Nonetheless, if the Wii has the same online "service" as the DS it won't help Nintendo shed their "kiddy" image.
I wouldn't go making assumptions until we know the release date, and see how well Nintendo can perform. With the low (relative) cost of the Wii, Nintendo can make many more of them - and so should be able to get many more Wii's than PS3s into stores. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii is only the only "next-gen" console that consumers can just walk in and buy off the shelf come mid-December.
Indeed, hooray for Blizzard and their habit of adding content to the patches instead of charging subscription fees AND for paid expansions every 7 months or so.
I'm not saying I agree with MS's choice, merely that those were the reasons they gave. I'd imagine that towards the end of this generation Microsoft will face some problems with games only appearing on the PS3 because they would need to be on many DVDs for the 360, but for a while at least they have the price advantage in their favour. They probably hope that by the time disc storage becomes a real issue they will have a large installed userbase that will continue to buy games for their system.
Microsoft said right from the start that they wanted their customers to have the choice of whether to spend money on a next-gen DVD drive, unlike Sony who are giving PS3-buyers a Blue-Ray drive whether they like it or not. For this reason MS said months ago that they would not release any games this generation on HD-DVD discs, because they wanted all their 360 owners to be able to play all the games available. This isn't news at all, MS have always said the optional HD-DVD drive would be for movies and not games.
That's great for you, but you're missing out on some great games.
Do you use a cellphone from the early 90's? It would probably still work. I don't mean to pick on you but seriously, play Mario Kart, Trauma Center and Pheonix Wright on the DS and then decide whether you care about playing new and innovative games. The DS has greatly improved graphics over the GBA, its wireless features make multiplayer gaming a breeze and the really good games on the horizon are almost all on the DS, rather than the GBA.
Less of the "kids" please - I wouldn't buy a PS3 just for a FFVII remake but it would certainly add one to the (very small so far) list of games I'd want for the system.
I'd argue against that, but would conceed that Nintendo has a higher proportion of fun games, certainly. Just about every first-party Nintendo title is a classic.
I think about this a lot. I work in a games store and I really, really hope we get a Wii pod in-store. I think that seeing it in action and getting a chance to play it will really be needed to sell the system. This is the sort of thing I meant in my last post, I think it will take time for people to see the Wii in stores and see them at friends houses until it's become something the general public are informed about, as opposed to "The New Playstation" which will be filling the news in the coming months.
Sorry but get real. Playstation is the brand that parents and kids are completely familiar with, in much the same way as the generation about thought of "the Nintendo" as the thing you played games on in the living room.
I would love Nintendo to come out on top, but I think than expecting it is a little niave. I think it will take time for the truly revolutionary aspects of the Wii to become well-known to the general public, and remember that people fear change and pointing with a wand is a pretty big change for people used to playing with a pad.
I admire your optimism, and as I said I'd love you to be right, but don't assume the name "Wii" is the only thing going against the console this Xmas.
I'm fairly sure the software that comes bundled with the stick is only for Windows XP. I had a quick Google and could only find forum posts of people asking the same question as you and getting the answer of "no, you should get a wireless router" which isn't very helpful. So I guess the answer is to dual boot or something but I don't know enough about networks to know anything about your MAC address problem. Good luck though!
This isn't much of a workaround, but the Nintendo Wi-fi Connect USB stick you can buy can only be accessed by DS consoles (though they will most likely update the firmware to support the Wii when that is released) as you actually have to set each console up manually on your PC the first time you connect with it. It supports up to (IIRC) 5 DS consoles. At work we actually point this out to people who have a wireless router at home, since otherwise they'll have to practically disable their security to use their DS online. This way you can have a secure wireless connection and connect your DS consoles via the USB stick in one of your PCs. Here in the UK it costs £29.99 RRP.
I wasn't really trying to suggest that. What I was saying that the fact that it's popular with the masses disagrees with the idea that no one likes the CoD series and it's doomed to failure just because a few hardcore CoD fans were unhappy withe the CoD2 online experience.
Remember that not everyone plays games online, I enjoyed CoD2 and haven't gone online with it even once. OTOH, CoD2 is still the #1 most played 360 game on Xbox Live, so don't pretend that it's "withering on the vine".
Sounds to me like you feel personally voilated by Infinity Ward and have decided that everyone hates them as much as you do. Not so, certainly 360-wise there is a lot of CoD2 love around.
I wish space exploration was advancing faster. It seems sad that in this, the 21st century, the world's superpowers are still spending vast sums of money on killing other humans, instead of seeing what's beyond our own back yard. It's a really geeky thing to say I know, but I often wish I'd been born a few centuries later, and had the chance to live the Star Trek life. A lifetime of exploring space sounds great to me.
On a more serious note, I've often thought of manned deep space exploration as a bit of a Catch 22. I think it's the sort of thing that could really bring humanity together and encourage us to look past our differences and work together towards a common goal - but then I also think that we couldn't achieve a united deep space exploration programme until humanity learned to work together ans set aside our petty squabbles.
I'm holding out for a discovery of some kind that will shunt the human race into a new era of enlightenment, but I doubt I'll see it in my lifetime.

Don't forget Lego Star Wars and the Timesplitters series. Co-op gaming is one of the most fun things about multiplayer!

Presumably someone attacked their weakpoint (needing oxygen) with massive damage (a lack of it). I love how games help us learn!
Yeah, we need to protect kids.

And making sure we can't talk to anyone we don't already know.
Wait....isn't that how you make friends irl?

Nice ASCII art, shame it was in fact you who didn't get my joke.

Not sure if you were being sarcastic, but you do know that Halo 3 isn't going to be out at the time of the PS3 launch, right?

I think you'd be surprised at how much the Playstation brand has entered the public conciousness.
And if you think Sony have never had fun games then you're a very idiotic fanboy.

Of course I'm well aware of this, I just left it out of my post to try to keep the mood a little cheerier :P
/has seen First Contact and every episode of Enterprise
