  3. Something international, please. on Ask Slashdot: Where Do You Stand on Daylight Saving Time? · · Score: 1

    I prefer something international, like e.g. http://www.newearthtime.net/

    AM/PM is crap.

60 is crap compared to 100, but at least the linked 360-hour system is easy to 'mental sync' with GMT.

    DST etc. is crap.

  4. Somewhat relevant ... on The Rebirth of PC Gaming? Bring On the Modders! · · Score: 1

Some mods extend the lifespan of a game.

Then there are 'mods' that enable continued play when the official online game portal collapses.

E.g. FAForever is a community made lobby better than the original for the best RTS game ever; Supreme Commander / Forged Alliance.

  6. One option: on The Loudness Wars May Be Ending · · Score: 1

Producers and publishers could produce and sell two-tier CDs:

One CD with compression though not as vile as today. It's ok for poor soundsystems and noisy enviroments. Car, iPod, work(?) etc.

Two: A well-mastered record. Preferably a DVD or Blu-ray with higher sample depth (24 bit) and frequency.

And in addition they can give the radio-stations a super-compressed version.

This requires more work of the Audio Demeneers, though.

  7. Icing on the cake! on Why We Should Buy Music In FLAC · · Score: 1

Good: CD quality 44kHz / 16-bit sans lossy data compression.

Slightly better: 24 bit in 96kHz or 192kHz.

Requirement: A recording sans post-performance bullshit like volume dynamic compression, supersampling, multi-recording, reverb, auto-tune, filters, mixing or whatever the stuido cheats are called.

    Musician ==> microphone ==> recording.

    Note: I deliberately oversimplified this.
I do understand that heavy processed music may be needed in noisy enviroments, but I want none of it on my high fidelity sound system.

  8. Re:Squandered technology on Apple in Talks to Improve Sound Quality of Music Downloads · · Score: 1

    Amen!

24-bit and 192kHz is probasbly nice, but it is pointless unless the performance, recording and processing is well done.

I mean; isn't the anti-malaria project just another business?

I know little about this (thus I'm likely wrong), but don't they demand reciving countries to accept some crazy silly copyright agreements?
Which of course is getting B.G.Foundation or whatever it's called quite a bit of money from 'someone' ( *IAA I assume?)

Or I do recall reading some such. Please correct & enlighten me.

You need to hack everything else around them, though: figure out what 'standard data+I2C interface' is* and how it works, how they can communicate with a 'server' or sorts (one NI to all the cameras and connect all to a PC?) , and you may need to make waterproof cases for [some of] them, too.

I am not sure if I'd be up to it, but it could be a fun project.
