1) They're not a monopoly (Fedex, UPS, DHL, without even bringing up freight carriers)
2) They operate in the black (and work hard to do so)
3) I've gotten boxes cross-country with USPS in 4 days
I mean, seriously, how can you complain about the postal service? I can get a letter across the country for the price of a candy bar. I can get a light envelope to the most remote parts of the world for the price of a gallon of gas or two.
Lets face it, the price of stamps goes up to deal with the cost of running a distribution network that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (you don't get mail on Sunday, but they're moving and processing it).
Hey there chief, you are aware a private pilot's license only requires 40 hours of in-flight time, correct? I myself am training for my private license, have 12 hours of flight time, and have already solo'd (flying minus the instructor). General aviation has an accident rate of about 1 fatality per 100,000 flight hours (much safer then driving) although I agree that the barrier to fly is much higher then driving (which helps the accident rate).
How about dropping the vertical takeoff and landing requirement, and simply using general aviation airports? According to Wikipedia, there are 5,288 GA airports in the US.
I too commute by motorcycle, and look forward to the day I can get a transition visor (that tints based on level of UV it's being exposed to). My glasses have it, but I'm not sure if they can do it with safety plastic used on helmet visors.
I appreciate that you didn't berate me like the other posters, especially the one who relegated my job to simply setting up servers and running network cable (considering I do the same work as a CCIE, just without the actual certification).
My whole point was that if you're sufficiently intelligent, a college degree is unnecessary. Will it help? Depends. I interviewed at Google to run part of their infrastructure, and they scuffed that I didn't have a degree. They also would have only payed me a third of what I'm making now.
At the end of the day, your intelligence and adaptably is what will carry you.
How choice that you mention dousing students with STD infected blood and passing the playboy bunnies around in the same post. Me thinks you haven't thought your cunning plan all the way through =)
I couldn't agree with you more. When I was 17, I dropped out of high school (right before Senior year started). I was tired of the bullshit and unchallenged. I was working part-time at a web design firm as their sole Sysadmin (desktops and servers). 7 years later (I turned 24 last November) I'm running a hosting division at a large consulting company, managing a team of people and 1000s of servers (and a network infrastructure most lust after). I have no certs and no college degree (although I have some gen. ed. credit as well as credit towards an Aviation degree I'm doing for fun) and learned everything I know from books, trial and error, and a series of mentors.
Today, family and friends ask me to not mention any of this to their kids finishing high school/starting college. Go figure.
Speaking as a manger of an IT department, locking a MAC address to a user isn't draconian at all. It assists greatly in preventing malicious users as well as infected devices (laptops, PDAs, anything else connecting to the network). If you don't like the policy, don't use the network.
Who says it hasn't already happened? They were just better at keeping it hush-hush this time after seeing what happened in the move (a la Spaceballs style);)
Cell phone providers drop users of older phone technologies because it's obscenely expensive to support older technologies (i.e. analog). Businesses have a right to turn away customers that don't make them money.
If you AND the parent poster are neuroscientists, you two need to get crackin' on my neurointerface to increase the data rate between me and my computer and the net.
Of course, I kid. But I hope you two get to do some cool research.
They're too expensive considering that in most places of the US, electrical infrastructure already exists. Alternative energy has to compete with that in-place infrastructure. There is no infrastructure in third world countries (or only a bit, depending on the location). Only then can alternative energy prices compete, as they're up against the build out costs of infrastructure.
Can we dispense with the anti-corporate bullshit? If you want service out there for public safety, start chipping in cash yourself. Otherwise, service will be put out there when it's commericially viable.
How much does one of those generators cost that bolts to the bike to generate power a light? The problem would be generating enough current consistently to make it worth while (which isn't going to happen). You're better off paying a couple bucks and charging a cellphone or laptop via a solar panel.
Please don't post bullshit here. T-Mobile disallowed T-zones from being full access (which is WHAT IS ADVERTISED) at all of it's geographic locations. They're simply applying the policy you agreed to. Tons of people got a free ride, and now are only get the crippled T-zones web for $5.99/month (whine whine whine). Those of us who have the $30/month unlimited data plan (which includes Wi-Fi access where available) aren't having any problems.

Quit whinning.
*Please note that I'm a champion of personal responsibility, and very much against the nanny-state.
Thank you!

Don't use swap on the flash disk. Run with a ton of RAM instead. Longer hardware life, with the added bonus of extremely quick data shuffling.

New 'Primetime Live' Sex Survey Reveals That More Republicans (56 Percent) Are Very Satisfied With Their Sex Lives Than Democrats (47 Percent)

Because you can't subsidize the hell out of biodiesel like you can with ethanol/corn farmers?
Very true. But, if you have to pick one, food is more important. No energy means I don't get to work, etc. and become destitute. No food means I die.
*squish*

What has our country become when comitting a felony disqualifies you from flying the shuttle but not from becoming a president?
