The kids that got picked on were the small kids with napoleon complexes and would seek out fights. We didn't have guys taking lunch money and generally people would stand up to the bully if they were mercilessly torturing somebody, that's how I got into my only fight in HS, I still remember telling the dean I didn't throw a punch (elbows work better in close quarters).

A lot of times (I suspect most of the time) these sorts of class-action lawsuits are instigated by not just the usual suspects (greedy lawyers), but also with the support of the companies themselves. The lawyers get a big payday. The company gets shielded from any further individual lawsuits. And the consumers get stripped of their right to sue individually, for the "settlement" of a "5% off your next purchase" coupon.

In other words, when you hear "class-action lawsuit," don't think "Yeah, we're sticking it to the big guys!" Think "No, they're sticking it to *YOU*."

Just because there is a class action lawsuit does not mean you have to join it, you are free to sue them yourself and try to get what you think you are entitled to.

  11. Google needs to check its math on Google To Add Pay To Cover a Tax For Gays · · Score: 1

How are they discriminated against? If two gays are living together and one gets the head of household deduction $8,350 (if they don't claim a domestic partnership and have kids) or $5,700 if not and the other will get the $5,700, while married couples get $11,400 filing jointly or $5,700 filing separately, so gay couples get the same deduction or higher based on circumstances then married couples . Now for the tax schedule two gays making $100,000 each in taxable income pay $21,709 or $43,418 together while a married couple filing separately pay $22,122 each or $44,244 together or if they file jointly they pay $44,244. The only way married couples might come out ahead in the tax game is when one spouse makes significantly more then the other and files jointly. So a married couple where one stays home and has 100k in taxable income will only pay $17,363 while the gay couple pays $21,709 but the non working gay could fie a return and get money back so even this discrepancy in taxes paid probably is not there. Looks like Google needs to give married couples a raise for the horrible tax discrimination they receive.

Even if 99% of all comments are garbage, that is simply an argument for better filtering, not that the crowd has no wisdom. The whole point of the wisdom of the crowd in the first place was to apply filtering mechanisms to ensure the best gets to the top. It seems to work well for Wikipedia and it even will work for this comment if you mod me +1.

The reason 99% of comments are garbage is the motivation behind the comments, a well though out insightful comment may take too much effort for the little gain (many intelligent comments simply get passed over), while a witty comment or troll that does nothing to advance the discussion takes much less effort and has more gain.

Wow, how little you know. I can trivialize anything too. "How hard is it to make a CPU? It just takes a bit of math and digital guide." Did anyone at Apple consider the polarization of the waves from the tower? How about the bandwidth? What about the antenna pattern? Did they account for near-field interference, which I am sure they will have in such a tiny package, or a hand on the phone for example. How about the antenna gain?

The tower polarization is circular so antenna orientation is not a problem, the bandwidth is not too large where a single antenna can't handle the cell phone bandwidth, all cellphones have multipath problems but the signal can generally be cleaned up some even use the multipath to verify the signal, gain is a function of the antenna and can be easily characterized. The problem lies with lack of testing, the antennas were probably designed to handle all those problems but they didn't foresee the two antenna's being coupled together which changed the impedance and length. The real problem with apple's external antenna is not the coupling issues it is ESD sooner or later the LNA in the phone will get zapped and i doubt it will be able to handle it.
