Unless your business is software development (and I'm hoping it's not because you know nothing about programming), you should be concentrating on your business - not creating software. 2-5K is not that much to spend for a solid POS system. One major mistake in a developed solution could cost many times that in extra development, legal, etc. Also considering many projects like this fail you could be out the $$$ and have an incomplete POS system.
They have already done what they intended to do. Any [business] person sitting on the fence about whether to start using Linux or not has been swayed in the non-use direction. That was the only purpose...creating doubt.
I used to be excited about this kind of stuff for Linux but not anymore. Now that I have Vista installed, (I know I'm going to get killed for this) I think it's going to satisfy of all my needs and keep me happy for a long time. It's visually appealing, quick (on my PC), stable and somewhat more secure than previous versions. I just don't need to look at this kind of stuff anymore.
I believe that this will slowly lead to games that are directed toward advertisements. For instance, who would write an adventure game in the middle of the forest if you cant grab big bucks by advertising coke and nike? Game developers will follow the $$$ in advertising, leading to crap games.
I think programming has been made so easy by Microsoft that any Tom, Dick and Harry can write a simple program thinking "Hey, thats cool." The next thing you know they are binding some controls to a database and trying to make a quick buck or gain recognition through writing some programs. The are not thinking at all of the user experience and really don't care.
This is the problem with tools like VB, MS SQL and Access. [Good] Programming requires planning, thought and commitment throughout the whole process. Not just finding the first way something works and sticking with that method just because it worked in the beginning. These have been dumbed down so much...what else would you expect.
Nice to ignore all the programming environments and systems that use upper case for different reasons (SQL, AS400, etc). This must be one of the stupidest postings I've seen. Oh wait, I know, I'm going to declare a war on masturbation and post an article it. I felt a great disturbance at./, as if millions of./ users suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced
Everyone cares because there have been several announcements like this recently. We all want to jump on the 'ship is sinking' bandwagon. It's just what we do!
I don't understand why they are not pushing managed code internally. It sure doesn't look good from the outside if they won't start using something they recommend for customers. They don't seem to want to eat their own dog food.
Because your tag line represents micro-evolution, not macro-evolution which is being discussed here. You should know the difference, considering your tag line.
My wife, as a amateur photographer, has experienced this several times. At first she was delighted that someone thought her photos looked professional, now it has become a nuisance for her. She has turned to having the pictures done online and sent to her. They are better quality and cheaper.

I just bought an album I've been wanting for a while.
I will too. My wife and I were just talking last night about whether to get HBO or Netflix. We're going with NF because of this.
Dell drops Linux due to lack of sales.

...if you were to say it in ENGLISH????
Wait until he finds out that people use fans with LED's...on purpose!
You bought a PC with Vista PRE-INSTALLED and nothing worked? I think maybe that's a stretch.
1. Uninstall Ubuntu
2. Install Vista
3. Rock On
If I were at a company that changed their motherboards often, I'd get out of dodge quick. Another post that doesn't live in the real world.

...might be enough to power my wifes iPod that she listens to when I'm banging her.

Once the Signal-to-Noise ratio on this site gets 1:2, I will leave.
That is all.
Thank you.
apparently the grass is ALWAYS greener
And the bushes are cut differently.

This is the stance I think Google should take, continuing to provide service with China but allowing some "Filtering Hiccups" to occur.

Hmmm...and to think they didn't knock down your door to get you signed on.
