  1. Don't do it on What is the Best Way to Start a Paid GPL Project? · · Score: 0

Unless your business is software development (and I'm hoping it's not because you know nothing about programming), you should be concentrating on your business - not creating software. 2-5K is not that much to spend for a solid POS system. One major mistake in a developed solution could cost many times that in extra development, legal, etc. Also considering many projects like this fail you could be out the $$$ and have an incomplete POS system.

I used to be excited about this kind of stuff for Linux but not anymore. Now that I have Vista installed, (I know I'm going to get killed for this) I think it's going to satisfy of all my needs and keep me happy for a long time. It's visually appealing, quick (on my PC), stable and somewhat more secure than previous versions. I just don't need to look at this kind of stuff anymore.

I believe that this will slowly lead to games that are directed toward advertisements. For instance, who would write an adventure game in the middle of the forest if you cant grab big bucks by advertising coke and nike? Game developers will follow the $$$ in advertising, leading to crap games.

  14. It's a result of the tools on Why Software Sucks, And Can Something Be Done About It? · · Score: 0

I think programming has been made so easy by Microsoft that any Tom, Dick and Harry can write a simple program thinking "Hey, thats cool." The next thing you know they are binding some controls to a database and trying to make a quick buck or gain recognition through writing some programs. The are not thinking at all of the user experience and really don't care. This is the problem with tools like VB, MS SQL and Access. [Good] Programming requires planning, thought and commitment throughout the whole process. Not just finding the first way something works and sticking with that method just because it worked in the beginning. These have been dumbed down so much...what else would you expect.
