Vista actually does contribute to global warming. Requires big beefy CPUs and wastes cycles on DRM and other assorted nonsense? Check. Constantly "optimizes" the disk in background, thereby disabling a power-saving measure? Check.
problem is, Drupal ecommerce (and ubercart, et al) don't run on Drupal's current stable release. And Drupal 4/5 leave a lot to be desired. I question the relevance of a book written about outdated, unsupported ecommerce tech.
Your analogy doesn't work. All of the in-store loss mitigation measures you mention do not annoy legit customers as an unavoidable consequence of their employment. LGP's "solution" will annoy only legit users. The riffraff won't be bothered at all.
Why would you try to stop someone from leaving Africa to pursue of a better life? I mean, wouldn't that be kind of a ripoff.. go to school, work hard to get out of the ghetto (or ghetto continent, in this case) and then be told by a first-world wanker that you can't leave?
If they tasered (to death) the officers who perpetrate these crimes on those they have been hired to "serve and protect," I'll bet the death-by-taser statistics wouldn't be climbing so fast.
XviD is technically open source, but not "open" in the ways that matter to Sun's target audience. Same thing with x264 - an incredibly popular codec that's unusable for enterprises unless you license the patents.
The reason Theora exists: it's the least horrible fully-open (beer, speech) codec available. Keep your eyes on Dirac, someday you'll be able to play Dirac-encoded stuff on a home computer.
I got measles (and incredibly sick) from the MMR vaccine supposedly designed to "prevent" the measles. One bad experience pretty much ensured that at least one person on slashdot won't believe the hype around vaccines and their effectiveness.
Another funny thing: the nurses at my school, and my family physician, used this argument to convince me to get more shots - "if you don't get vaccinated, you might infect your friends" Almost as if they didn't believe in vaccine either...
IIRC the pocket projector comes with built-in nuclear power generation so you'll need a bit of external cooling capacity, but then you don't need batteries at all. Costco already has a contract to bring these out in September.
sure, a pocket-sized, internally powered device with the juice to project a picture 50" wide on the subway while plugged into your phone... that couldn't possibly be April 1, could it?
even better: make a gizmo to FRY cell phones if/when they ring during the movie.
The successor to the phone fryer might be yet another gizmo that could detect and ZAP those turds that talk during the really good parts.
While we're wishing I'd like a pony.

Here's a no-hype view from the global warming perspective.
Looks like we clearly need more pirates. What could possibly go wrong?

Pardon me, WHAT exactly will the Nazis be?
Forget Cliff Richard, beam some Hoff into the American public. The song "Hot Shot City" is particularly good.
tell that to the guys who do those 64k demos, like the produkt (and there are thousands more, but this one is my fave)

I'll even go as far as to say that the United States of America will be better off in any of the two possible outcomes.
Hey, I voted for Kodos.
... and in the rear-view mirror.
:)
the ipod search is obviously a red herring. The real reason for this agreement is far more sinister.

It sounds like a shockingly painful way to die.
4gb thumb drive: $14.99 at Newegg.
Losing your virginity: priceless.
If the keypad numbers on your bank's "visual keypad" are randomly arranged in the grid with every page load, that narrows the attack vector somewhat.
You're spelling is remarckable. I wish mine was as good.
Link doesn't work. How are we supposed to see it with NoScript and FlashBlock enabled?
Pleasantly understated masturbation humour certainly takes this database discussion to another level.
Respect.
In that case you'll want pictures of Evelyn Lory instead of this...
WARNING: SOURCE CODE DOES NOT CONTAIN EVELYN LORY.
Excellent point.
Here's a mirror I found with little effort. No password.
