It is great to hear, but really nothing new.
here is another no new thing - modern self styled "geeks"/"nerds"/"technophiles"/etc(and most of others), especially those who write/edit for public consumption, are illiterate on all subjects except highly abstracted, designed to death, interfaces of modern tech. they stand on shoulders of giants, but can't see the giants and never heard of them.
bubble mentality; mass delusions always fascinating. shouldn't be a problem with any of that, as long as others don't have to pay for the mistakes of deluded eventually.

greatest threats to individual security and human rights comes not technologies, used by random harmful people, but from modern states(or would be states) like eu, usa, china, russia, etc., all of which now seem to operate beyond democratic accountability and corrupt to the core, and monopolistic corps(especially technological conglomerates like amazon, google, facebook etc ) . unless deep state apparatus and functionaries are made transparent, accountable to citizens, and criminally liable, and monopolistic corps are democratically and transparently regulated, human right and individual security has no chance.
this is typical mature corporate conglomerate behavior; poking their fingers into non core businesses, they cannot really take full time interest in, and thus truly develop and master, choking those smaller startups and specialists who really know and love this or that business.
long history of this sort of behavior(with case studies aplenty at business schools). almost always ends badly for conglomerate(especially badly for its non core side business) when they are no longer able to waste money without consequences. big tech conglomerates still have that immunity from accountability,... for now.
if individual investors and beneficiaries of big tech corps want to invest in new ventures, they should do its separately from their corp. that would be good for both corp and new ventures.

does russia's interests oppose usa's? yes. does russia want a weak usa ? yes. is russia trying to get its way v.s usa, even using covert and criminal activity? yes. all that is true (not just of russia but plenty of others) for a long time.

but just to make clear, choice is not limited to "apple" or "samsung". together they do not make even 50 % of market.
