Can you imagine what the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Olbermann could do with a Republican with $90K in the freezer? They'd wet their collective panties!
That "M" word... according to the Wikipedia article (which, given current events, may well be full of shit) says this:
Macaca[1] is a dismissive epithet used by francophone colonials in Central Africa's Belgian Congo for the native population.
and further:
Allen's mother, born Henrietta Lumbroso, is of French Tunisian descent and some have suggested that she may have learned the pejorative during her childhood and introduced it to her son.
Uh, sure... That's one family dedicated to preserving their rich heritage of obscure racists terms!
Still, it sure looks like he meant it in the derogatory, rather than just trying to remember the guys name. But if you're against Allen to begin with, it doesn't take much to view his actions in the most negative light.
And why are some web devlopers so obsessed with the OS model? Everyone of these that I have seen, and I mean everyone of them, has either been a toy or an intentional joke. And if they're a toy, they're not even fun to play with.
To tell you the truth, I think what we have already - meaning various file keeping and sharing web applications - is all people would want out of a "Web OS."
There are about 1200 posts already, and growing. But I have to say it: I like America, I like the way she is now, we have a good president, and our liberties are not in danger. At least not from the president.
I would enjoy visiting just about all the countries mentioned in this thread, and yes I may enjoy the lifestyles. But I don't think I could ever be "comfortable" as a voluntary non-American.
...about ten years ago... the term freeware was never really used and everything was almost exclusively called shareware.
The terms 'freeware' and 'shareware' of course are (and were) distinct. Our memories do agree, though. Very little was called 'freeware.' Mostly it was shareware along the lines of 'If you use and enjoy this software, please send $10.00 to...' A lot of free trials that locked you out after 30 or 60 days could be 'hacked' by re-setting your system clock to an earlier date, or by changing a config file, sometimes.
Most freeware and software were worth about as much as you paid for them, unfortunately. I am amazed at the quality of some free software today.
All their recent espionage aside, I have bought 2 HP computers over the years (desktop about 5 years ago, laptop last year). I am very pleased with the quality, but 2 does not make a very good sample. Does anyone have opinions on the quality of the machines themselves?
The Wall Street Journal has (had?) a "Dartboard" feature in which they did just this, then compared the picks to choices made by analysts. Depending on the time-frame you're looking at, just random choices seem to give the analysts a run for their money, as it were.
I think the primary thing that made them take off was their interface put forward to their contributors (uploaders). You can upload a variety of formats, and your video is ready in a matter of minutes. Myself, I have uploaded several 30 to 60 second clips in MPEG format, each weighing in at 10-20 MB, thinking nothing of compression or conversion. YouTube slurps them up with ease, and puts them into their Flash player with no problems.
What if we all ran inside real quick?
Redundancy, redundancy...
One of the reasons it has such a bad reputation is that is installed on 99% of those $5.00/month hosts. Well, that's the reason I know PHP. :)
Agreed. How about a game where I scream "NERDS!" and kick them in the shins? Now that's lawsuit bait!

Thank you! That is an excellent point! Since I don't have mod points, you get a gold star.
Ah, I'm sorry. It's just an asterisk.

Now it's coming around that Webb, Allen's opponent, may be a plagiarist.

I wonder what percentage of the 100 million are A) domain squatting link tubs, and/or B) dead blogs.
Can I modify my /. settings to auto-post this for every new story? :)
(I am not making a statement about the quality of the stories; I am making a statement about how often I've seen this lately.)
Here's the way to know if the election is hacked:
Republicans do well - wholesale voter fraud, machines were manipulated, etc.
Democrats do well - most open and transparent election in years; the people have spoken.
I look forward to reading the post-election commentary, no matter who does well.

What'cha think 'bout them apples? :)
Judging by current polls, I think be believes all you Slashfags are Republican!

Judging from recent missile tests, the AAA Pyongyang city & regional map should suffice.

You guys laugh now, but I'll bet you'll be interested when they start posting articles from the future.
You never find them together. Why? Zombies like braaaaaains...

Blair Bowled by Bounders Bashing Boffo 'Bully'!
Well, you know how Nazis feel about borders.
Thank God! The irony of a highly detailed refutation of my nitpick was... overwhemling.
Or should I say, the ironing is delicious? :)
Interesting... but I always think of this when I hear "ha ha."
* groan *
My inner grammar Nazi is involuntarily goose-stepping after reading that.

How about before we became the dominant species? Not as sexy a question, is it.
A fairer question might be "For how many extinct species is mankind responsible?"
