Are you certain that the two significant figures in the left side of your equation result in an answer with 8 significant figures? The body has organs and muscles and other goodies, so the bone mass of even a large man wouldn't be that great. The last few digits of your result could be attributed to the man choosing to drink another gulp of space-milk or not.
During the Pope-death-athon everyone was actually waiting for the guy to die. This round of constant monitoring gave me more of a NASCAR feel, where nobody wants a crash but everybody wants to be watching if one occurs. It's nice that there was no crash. I'm sure somewhere the shuttle pit crew is spraying champagne all over the place while wearing lab coats and doing backflips.
At Georgia Tech, the IT department sets minimum and recommended specifications for student computers. You could buy a laptop that meets the minimum specifications for roughly the price of buying a desktop that meets the recommended specifications or building a desktop that exceeds the recommended specifications. With most schools demanding a recent OS for compatibility with school-supplied software, nearly all students can run Remote Desktop under MS Windows or VNC under linux distributions. Not all students living away from campus drive cars, and I for one would not put a laptop in the same backpack as my bulky textbooks with a good chance of smashing it to bits in a bicycle accident. I take a USB memory card to school, leave the desktop at home, and still have not spent as much as an equivalent laptop would have cost.
This is nothing but MS doing "humanitarian" work to gain even more exposure. This is like giving out sports cars because they're short a few bicycles. All the world sees is "Look dear, something is improving. Microsoft did that."
Until the strength of the signal is boosted significantly, consumers will not be happy with an improvement in the 802.11 range of wireless networks. If you can't install repeaters in places where they will both have good signal and not be eyesores, you might as well have cables. In my experience, both the overhead for sending data wirelessly and the distance from the base combine to cut speeds drastically. Until these issues are settled, gigabit ethernet with well-hidden wires seems a better option.
I was a little put-off by the fact that toy parts were only used for the drivetrain and suspension. The sensors and various gizmos are necessary, but are a little too advanced to call the thing much of a toy. It would be nice to see a robot that every kid with an old RC truck could build out of toys and maybe one or two little circuits, using free instructions.
The thing is cool, I'll give it that, but I would have been happier if it were MacGuyver'd together out of the RC truck parts, some lego robot controls for dummies, a couple protoboards or print-and-etch-your-own circuits to connect the incompatible electronics, duct tape, and rubber bands.
Many schools have "no kegs on campus" policies to reduce the severity of binging. I don't see how regulating the flow of beer from kegs will have any effect at fraternities. Bottle-bot would be a bit too expensive to implement.
Say everyone has RFID somehow embedded. If the "bad guys" devise a method of reading nearby RFID info and determining who is who and from where, it gives them a choice of when to self-kablooey for the most political points. A mad bomber can kick back and ride the bus until US Citizen number 20 gets on, even if said citizen is not in the telltale A&F clothing that screams out "I drive a blood-for-oil-mobile and want everyone to join my right-wing faith by force."
You do have a good point about mixing caffeine and alcohol. The only time to do that is when you're still drunk and have to roll outta bed and get to work.
I don't believe chain grocery stores would sell Guarana beverages such as Antarctica Guarana Champagne if the FDA had qualms with the safety of the source. Risks-shmisks, its just another fruit drink. So long as the fermentables are of the sort produce "bad" alcohol, guarana beer should be plenty safe.
I can't see the purpose of a weather function on the desktop or perhaps a news ticker. All of the clutter of widgets cannot be worth the slight gain in functionality. A well-organized homepage with links/bookmarks should do the trick. A click or two to launch and use a browser are worth saving desktop real estate on a low-res (1024x768) LCD like mine.
I lifeguarded and know that lifeguards make from minimum wage starting at a Red Cross facility to ~15/hr as head guard. Find yourself an IT manager and your mystery is solved.
There are people who don't understand how to correctly wire their stereos, televisions, and VCRs. I would not trust my life in their ability to wire a broadband modem, router, VoIP phone and UPS. I am comfortable relying on the telephone company for 911 service because their CYA department has had years to ensure they will have power when the lights go out.
Are we talking about power over ethernet or power over broadband? If the cable/dsl modem becomes cable/dsl-powered with enough power for all subsequent ethernet connections via power over ethernet, then the 911 system could be expected to work in an idiot-proof fashion.
A pair of cameras could create a stereo image of the mugshot portrait. Depth could be determined by inspection (crossing the eyes), or even computation (assuming lighting conditions are known).
A projector at each side of the criminal could drop a grid onto the faces from the sides, leaving contours much like a topographical map.
I guess rather than seeing the technological bumps in the road, I look right through to the question of "Why?" thinking that knowing the length of a nose or sunken-ness of eyes will not be necessary evidence to re-capture repeat offenders.
Here in Atlanta there are occasionally "free" concerts and even "free" symphonies. I have never been strip searched walking into an outdoor concert in a park. If the initial investment (organization, advertisement, etc.) has already been made and no recordings are going to be sold of a given concert/symphony, who is losing out? Those people who missed the "free" show are not harming other performers by listening to my bootleg of the show.
The show is not free at all, but rather gifted to the listeners and paid in full before the actual performance.
Do away with the "no child left behind" concept. It is a fact of life that some people are not going to "get it" and they need special help. It would be far better to have more children with learning disabilities (LD) in classes catering to LD kids than to have children passing classes just for conformity. If funding is not based on how many children "pass" a given level of classes but instead on standardized test averages the system would work better. There could be a fixed, per-student amount of funding for all public schools with extra funding for the schools that need it the most rather than extra funding for the schools that have the greatest number of high grades and high testing scores.
If you mute the flash animation and begin playing it at exactly 1 minute 5 seconds into the album Dark Side of the Moon...
I speculate they will move to 96 bit long doubly.

Pocket PC. Call it a fucking PDA if it doesn't run Pocket PC software.

they neglected to thank the midget in thier cooler, Lil' Oscar, who so kindly carried their rope.

I tried to do something like that. I bought perhaps 5% of the music I had illegally downloaded then thought to myself:
Self, why should I pay money to buy hard copies of albums such as Micheal Jackson's "Bad" or Phil Collins' "No Jacket Required"?
I think that's called having the munchies. You're only in trouble if you have the grass with you still or you can be proven to be intoxicated.

Giant Garmins, perhaps. Giant Magellans, never!
What part of "don't ask" is beyond you?

Mod parent down, offtopic.
Do you have to try the gateway drugs first or can you skip right to the good stuff?
