It takes so much fuel and so much energy to leave earth's atmosphere that sending people out into space is not cost effective. It would cost less to lets say launch a ship from the moon than it would be from the earth. We can go much further and at a faster pace if we first built a base. From there you can start sending actual people out to places like Mars. Granted those people would be spending a lot of their life time on a ship to get there and either setup base there or setup a midway point between us and mars. What anything really comes down to funding something like this. Although we do spend $300+ billion on wars so you would think if we put that much money to R & D in physics, biology, chemistry, technology, etc. we would be much better off. I am looking at long term outcomes here. 20-30-50-100 years away. Eventually oil and other resources will become scarce so where is humanity going to turn to next? Eventually we will need to start funding space programs so we can take advantage of other planets around us.

Eventually we get to a place like we see in Battlestar Galactica. It really is about where the money goes. If we can land on Mars we can do a lot more than sending probs out.

  10. I wish it never came out on Vista Gets Official Release Dates · · Score: 1

I wish they just postpone all of vista. The only reason why vista will be used is because major corporations will buy all their computers from Dell, HP, etc. Those computers will house Vista. It will take a couple years before everyone has the operating system. Mainly because people don't want to pay a lot of money for an operating system. There is way more people who buy from venders like Best Buy, CompUSA, Fry's etc. Microsoft has a version of windows for every circumstance you need. You know what? Screw that. Just make one OS with everything in it. All the same damn features as the top of the line Vista. An average person isn't going to know the differences between Home Premium, Vista Enterprise, Vista Business, Vista Home Basic, Vista Ultimate. Shit I don't even know what the hell is the difference (yes I know I can look for it on their website) but in general people don't want to think when it comes to computers. It is too technical, blah blah blah.

The problem is that we just need to STOP buying their damn products. It is easy to say that than to actually do that but for god sakes we could have so much more in an OS. We could have really cool interactive menu systems, we could have media drivin enviroments and I am not talking about shitty ass GUIs I am talking about 3D enviroment desktops. Make things intuitive and faster. I know people want fast times when installing the OS but I would love to see options to not install or to install certain applications. The best thing any one can ever do in software development is make two versions of your software, one light and one full, then you put them into one piece of software. Being able to select which options you want to have on there and which options you don't is just better for everyone. Most the people who build their computers know enough about computers to have options to do shit in the OS. Dell, HP, Gateway, etc. all can have their own installation processes for prebought computers (they could have a drop down menu in the bootup disc for average users and users who want to customize installation). Yes I know linux has some of this stuff already. The problem is linux isn't that user friendly. I know I will probably get slammed for this but it truely isn't intuitive at all. I do admit over the years different distros have made it a lot easier to install but just dealing with hardware issues and drivers, etc. just a nightmare to deal with.

I just want more. I want people to think what you want the future to be like in 10-20 years. What sort of technology do you want? Think of all the cool ideas for a good os would be, think about optimizations in your companies computers, think about gaming and how interactive that is, now think about something like interactive menu systems and real time effects. In 20 years we will amazing technologyy, maybe more doors will open with light particles and we will be able to manipulate light in a way where we could have 3D holograms. The way I see it, is that Vista is just a blockade for all of that. It will only help out the big media corporations and hurt innovation and creativity. I say we hold off as long as we can with out installing vista. Make it as painful as we can for them. If any one is high up in a company, please do not upgrade your systems yet. Wait till crazy haxors begin the crack it open and figure out the system.

I have lived in LA for 6 years now and have met people from TV, Film, Game, and Music industry. Infact I was taught by some of the most professional artists in the world. I as well work for a big entertainment company and do produce help produce a product that makes between $100-$200million in sales, I cannot say who or what I deal with because my job would be at stake.

You may think everyone blows shit out of their ass but unfortunately you are wrong.

I have factual evidence to back everything I say is up. Apparently you don't think American rights are being trampled on over NSA wiretaps? Apparently you don't understand that we just suspended habeas corpus. You don't understand that their are frivolous lawsuits in America because of big corporations want more power and more money.

When I say entertainment shouldn't be as a high priority, I mean that the people doing this work should be getting paid middle to upper middle class wages. If their movie or game or album or tv show does really well, then you get a bonus. As an artist you should not expect millions for a retarded roll you played in and make the consumer pay higher prices to compensate your wages. That is retarded. There are way more important things in the world than what Tom Cruise and Katie holmes does. There are way more important things to gossip over than paris hilton.

As for popularity of a show. Let me see, first off any anime you find on torrent sites are hugely popular and because of that people end up buying more of their products here in America. America wouldn't have had Naruto with out downloading or million other animes. There are tones of shows and tones of movies that would have never gotten off the ground if they have not been downloaded. There are thousands upon thousands of downloads everyday in the movie, and tvshow and music catagories through torrenting. Shows that range from being insanely popular to shows that arent. A lot of downloads come from other places in the world, Spain, Japan, Germany,England, etc. They wouldn't get half the shows we get and vica versa.

All youtube is, is another medium at which entertainers can entertain. The more people watch you, the more popular you are. I can go on and on, but this is getting old.
Can we for once look past the money and do something good for a change. Yes people have to get paid to live but they don't have to get paid what they are getting paid at, which could range in the millions per year. Actors/actresses/musicians/artists/athletes/entert ainers/executives/etc. have no right to be paid millions upon millions for their lack of work in society. Yes they entertain but the priority of entertainment shouldn't be as high as it is. People like scientists and educators should be getting paid a hell of a lot more than what they do now. The problem with our society is the fact that we have big business running the government. How?

Well first off, you have campaign contributions by big corporations to the politician. These politicians get elected and now have to scratch the corporations back by putting into law like the DMCA or other bills. OR we have politicians that come from a big business background and want to maximize profits for their friends or their companies they have/had ties to. When things like the DMCA get passed it hurts innovation and it hurts society. That is why we have a format war going on. That is why we have our rights being stomped out. That is why we are slowly becoming a bunch of sheep. This is just one of many bad things to come if we don't stop this government. Pirate the shit out of everything. Say fuck you to Sony BMG, say fuck you to Microsoft, say fuck you to Universal, say fuck you to warner bros, say fuck you to news corp, say fuck you to disney, say fuck you to aol, say fuck you to DRM, say fuck you to congress, just fucking think for yourself and stop being a god damn sheep to these people. They know what units to pump out first, they know what resource to go after. The thing about an RTS game is the fact that yes you do have freedom but you are also confined to "laws" of the game at any given point during the game. It becomes a factor of narrowing down how you play and what the right way to play against someone else is. It is just a matter of knowing what the developers wanted in balance of a game. It is all about balancing in any multiplayer game. Some games are less balanced than others but still it doesn't take skill to play most games at a competitive level. Actually, yes I am saying exactly that. I would say the right hardware setup for each person is a major factor on how well someone does. This is debated widely in console versus pc fps games. Some people have the thumbs to deal with the console fps games and some don't but I can bet anything that you give them enough time on it, they will become pretty damn good at it.

First of all, I am a person that "writes" (you should say develop makes you sound a tad bit smarter) games. I think I understand this a little more than you. Most people who develop games understand game philosophies and game mechanics. I am talking about programmers and designers (not talking about artists, but they understand other principles of the game as well) these people understand exactly how their game works and typically play 10x more games than the average gamer and easily rival "competitive gamers". Uh, I really don't know exactly what you mean by they dont spend enough time actually competing, they don't have to. Competitions are not more than just game matches in tournament style rank system. There isn't something special about competing that makes someone better. If you are "practicing" 18 hours a day 7 days a week and you aren't the top gamer in that game...then you should go jump off a bridge or something because that is just retarded or maybe get a life and go get laid.
